i'm liking the bon iver love. also promise of redemptions "when the flowers bloom" is pretty much the reason i survived this winter.

Last summer, I'd began to dabble in '60s Psychedelic Pop, but never really gave The Velvet Underground a thorough listening. I picked up Loaded vinyl and The Velvet Underground & Nico digitally and love them both.
I'm also discovering Joni Mitchell's catalog (which, given the popularity of Folk on this site, should be required listening). Currently, I'm listening to Blue and Court and Spark.
Oh, and though I did, in fact, own Bon Iver's album last year (*coughillegallycough*), I bought the rerelease this year.
I'm currently enamored with the "Outlaw Country" scene (for lack of a better term), specifically my favorite Country recording artist, Merle Haggard. I've been dividing my time between Branded Man (obviously), Mama Tried and Pancho & Lefty (with Willie Nelson).
Also this year, I discovered contemporary Jazz artist Vijay Iyer, who's album Tragicomic is one of the best of the year so far. This prompted me to mine through his backlog, which lead me to the seminal contemporary Jazz masterpiece Blood Sutra.

I'd never imagine that, of all the inspiring artists who've documented their trials, their hardships, their miseries and their triumphs, there would be someone who would claim "the dude from Valencia saved my life."
More power dude, more power.

Tegan and Sara--The Con
Alkaline Trio--Good Mourning
Bright Eyes--Lifted or the Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
Fugazi--Steady Diet of Nothing
Hot Water Music--Fuel for the Hate Game
I Love You, But I've Chosen Darkness--Fear is on Our Side
Hope Sandoval--Bavarian Fruit Bread
Bruce Springsteen--Darkness on the Edge of Town
Bruce Springsteen--The River
this would actually be more like a soundtrack to my summer as opposed to what I've been listening to all year.

haha i was expecting someone to say something like that. the lyrics aren't anything incredible, just straight forward and i think thats what i was looking for at that time. and knowing that story just related to me so much it was impossible to not feel a connection there.
Lately - OK Computer, Vheissu
All year - Kid A.

I've been listening to Within Temptation's "The Silent Force" and "Mother Earth" a lot, but i dont know if they count because they were reissued this year for the US. Also, Chiodos' "All's Well That Ends Well" and Devil Wears Prada.
