Alright I'm having problems with the sound levels using a dynamic mic.

I use a Presonus Firebox + Sennheiser e835 dynamic mic. I hear you must have a preamp to boost the level for dynamic mics, but I think the firebox alraedy has a built-in preamp, so how come I'm not getting such low sound? I've had no problems with my condenser mic, but that broke and I switched it with the e835.

I use Garageband and Ableton Live 7

Is there some other way to boost the level without having to buy a preamp?

Thanks

Because to get a decent signal out of a dynamic you need 50-60 dB of gain.

The Firebox does have preamps that should work for you. Chances are you are trying to record at to high a level. Most people don't know that you should record at a lower level.

Read through my posts in that thread a few times to learn about proper recording levels.

If it sounds too quiet when you're mixing then just turn up the volume on your speakers.

yeah you gotta leave room for compression and gain, probably the most important part of creating a mix where each instrument/track is defined.

By the way, what are you recording? Vocals? Acoustic/electric guitars?
