But this makes me sick when kids come out and say yeah I quit last week. That to me would be the biggest punch in the face to someone who is trying to keep clean in a world that is quite dirty. You have taken it upon yourself to not really have much of a social life in college, therefore making it a lot easier. If you were a kid that went out with friends all the time, and they weren't straightedge, then it would be a lot harder. Friends constantly going to parties with beer/drugs, friends going to bars, etc.

I still don't see why putting yourself in a whole different mindset makes you an idiot. You think outside the box so much more. It's also just a form of fun. Sure, some drugs are a little nuts ( ice, heroin, etc. ), but should you always judge the whole by the minority?

I hate classifying myself as anything. I've drank (quite heavily at times), i've smoked pot a few times, I definately will NEVER have a problem with sex lol. I'm just saying that the majority of the college students I have seen and the majority of college students who's drunken endeavors I have heard about are stupid. Not the person, but just their actions.

I am proud to be straight edge. And the funny thing is, I had NO IDEA what the heck being straight edge was until I met my girlfriend who called herself that. I had no idea about the whole XXX thing or the history of it.

But now I know the history after learning from her and reading about it and all that. But I definitely do not have the "hate edge" where I hate people who aren't edge.

For me it just a personal choice. Probably out of fear. I was too afraid to try those things back in middle school or high school. And none of my friends drank or smoked either. And the ones that started doing it, just sort of seperated from the group gradually.

And then after I graduated HS, my friend started drinking at the grad parties and I felt sick. Like they broke their promise. But remember we didn't have the edge. We had a "promise" to never drink. But of course, a girl got involved and my bud wanted to impress her, so he drank. We both despised drinking because our fathers were alcoholics and we hated that about them.

But my girlfriend has some shirts, bands, stickers, etc to show off her edge. She is proud of it. She doesn't like to show it off in public because I think she's too afraid of people judging her. Or she usualy runs into some creepy random guy at hot topic or something and says "hey!! you are straight edge! me too! wanna see my tattoos? lets go out sometime....."

I remember, she wore a straight edge shirt to a concert and the lead singer of the band was like "Hey I am edge too," and she was like "oh reallly?" and he's like "yeah totally". But he's chuggin beers on stage during his set. WTF

I have a few straight edge friends and I am obsessed with straight edge hardcore. However, I don't see the point in claiming edge. All you have to say is "You know what? Straightedge kids are miserable to be around. They don't drink or smoke, and oftentimes they avoid things like caffeine, sex, certain foods, etc. I partied with a straightedge kid once and he just sat in the corner of the room the entire time brooding and trying to look upset. I, on the other hand, blacked out, made a girl cry, peed inside the front door of a restaurant, and started a fight that resulted in a very cool scar on my right knee. Who do you think had more fun? When he talks to his friends about that night, he'll just whine about how everybody needs to drink to have fun, but all he needs is poetry or love or freedom or some such bullshit.

Most sXe kids understand the sXe movement today as a series of laws condemning alcohol and drug abuse. To this day, I've never met a kid who considered himself straightedge who ever went back to his old lifestyle after giving drinking a sincere try. It just makes life more fun.
