View Full Version : a decision that could change life as i know it forever...
I've been having a hard time lately. You see, i was arrested for a DWI for drugs over a year ago.. I did my time in jail, 6 months. Now, although personal and probly should be kept to myself im at a point now, 3 months after release, where i know i cannot live in this state any longer. Im having dreams, and constant thoughts about where i want to go. and ive decided i want to up and leave, and start a new life somewhere else. Im heavily considering cali, idk where, all i know is within 3 months im planning to leave and start new, because life here is totally done, and i have no opportunity to reverse the mistakes i have made anymore. its over, my question is..if you were going to tell your family and friends and anyone important to you (girlfriend/boyfriend) that you were leaving, and its how it has to be right now, i may or may not be back anytime soon. how would YOU go forward explaining this. I could really use the help.

Just say, look, i want a fresh start somewhere else. Pick a place then go. Don't go anywhere that drugs will tempt you (that sort of counts out the world really)..Go to europe! sweden, UK, france, spain..All a million times better than US anyway....
If you've made your mind up, and if people want to stop you, don't let them.
Thats my serious advice anyway..
Anal really isn't really an answer on this one. =(

You just have to be real and honest with them. Tell them you're unhappy and need to leave in order to start things over. You won't be able to fix everything by moving, though.

A letter. Make sure your new return address is on it.

Something about the tone of this reminds me of The O.C.

haha, i really appreciate that. as well as everyone else responding but you really answered me in the way i was looking. i will give this a shot, i know drugs are always gonna tempt me and i accept that but you know what, if i cant continue my life here because its such a huge hole that i cant pull out of..this needs to happen.
next question, does anybody know a good school for computer science located in california? and can anybody tell me the average rent of a decent apartment? im researching myself but input from others is huge right now. thanks a million.

i'm too honest most of the time.
but sadly enough, i agree.
the funny thing is... wherever you go, there you are.
make sure the problem is the location and not you. if the problem is you, you might as well stay where you are at now.

I was thinking of a way to put that in words, and I can't find a better way.

how long does it take to actually realize this though?
it's so much easier to complain about the location, the school, whatever it is..
than to actually work on you and fix the problem

Most people who try this fail because their problems follow them and they fall into the same old lifestyle.
Try to move to a place where you know people or take some good friends with you where ever you go. Having positive, supportive connections is key when going through any major changes.
Good luck.

you're horrible at detecting sarcasm, but im glad i have you thinking about me miss; Hater, forget about you it'll be just me and your widowspeak loll
i wasnt trying to go for the hollywood scene, and by now i know that its not a problem with me, but the location. i was thinking more nocal than socal..but i know the rent is alot cheaper there than in new york..thats for damn sure. whats a decent area thats kinda booming right now?
my friends mom lived in chino hills so cal and from what i hear its relatively cheap and its a good area to live...truth in that?
Why would you want to move to California anyway? Try a different state(or country)

if they care about you they will understand that going somewhere else will help you stay away from the bad things that are affecting you at home. just tell it like it is, nothing beats honesty.

They might be just as expensive, but I've always had a thing for Oregon or Washington. Florida is expensive, but it's very nice out there as well.
Too be honest, if I was moving far away from my family and friends, I'd move to Spain or Switzerland. England would be nice too. But then again, I've always wanted to move to a different country.

Being serious here, not hating a'tall, but do you have financial support or are you going to do it by yourself? Financial situations should put a serious crimp on where you want/can live. There's no way I could afford to live like some of my friends do in CA or Seattle.
As far as leaving your family and friends behind- as well as you're doing well for yourself, they'll support you. If they don't... then you know who they really are. It's a tough thing to walk away from a life and lifestyle, but from my experience... it's the best damn thing you could ever do for yourself.
Yesterday was my 5-year anniversary from leaving home. I've lived in two different states/3 cities since then and I'm just now really seeing life as an adult and TRULY being completely responsible for my life.
Good luck!
