Managers, tour managers, label scouts, venue owners, lawyers, publicists, moms, dads, and the list is infinite of the money makers, deal breakers, visionaries and care takers that work the exhausting cogs of a successful band.
Once a month AP.NET will focus on one of the behind the scenes players of that all too surreal music world. The focus will consist of a brief, legitimate description of the duties of that position and a brief interview with a professional in that field.
We will do our best to hit all spectrums of the industry. If there are specific jobs you wish to get some information about, please do not hesitate to email Catie Callaghan at jacknifedreamer@yahoo.com, with subject line: It Takes a Village

Anyone up for the Idea that I do a 3-4 page article on what it means to be a "Do It Yourself" band? Everything it takes to become noticed.

"DIY stems from the days of Green Day and Blink 182, touring in a van and selling their OWN merch that they printed THEMSELVES with their parent's money. Blah blah blah..."

I am an attorney representing Warner Bros Records in their currently (humorously) contentious negotiations with Victory Records involving a band very near and dear to people on this site.
For the question about college degrees, I got a BA in political science and then went to law school.
This is a good idea, feel free to ask me questions and I'd be happy to help out if I can. aim: duballstar18

I think that would be really awesome. It could be fucking rad.
As long as It wasnt about how to get noticed by large labels, managemnet, and corprate america because that would be contrary to the idea of a "Do It Yourself" band. It seems today there is a large number of "DIY" bands that seem like their goal is to get noticed so they dont have to be a "DIY" band anymore.

I worked for 6 months as an intern for an independent promotions company which pushed through the Yellowcard, Coheed and Cambria, Strike Anywhere, Thrice and a number of other cds last year. It was rewarding to see how that end of the industry worked.
And I was also one of the unsung heroes of the industry: the college radio DJ for 4 and a half years.
small roles but important nonetheless

a while ago www.punkhardcore.com had a pretty awesome DIY guide for upcoming bands with touring, recording, playing shows, and just some all around good info. i was looking for it about a month ago but i think they took it down.
