I found out about this and this summer and let me tell you they're amazing. Yes I'd say this Christmas will be a good one even though the starting line promised me an album this past summer then this fall and now it's 04.

I checked out This Providence the first time you recommended them... and I haven't been able to stop listening to them. Seriously, Scott, thank you so fucking much. They are absolutely ridiculously amazing. It blows my mind that this band isn't huge. The way that they experiment with a variety of elements and styles is so well done. Someone said they had this certain musical sensibility about them, and that's it exactly.

Yeah. Gushing. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

By the beard of Zeus! You're welcome! :lol2:

let me tell you why they're not huge - they haven't released their first full length yet. Give it time my man. If they're not huge after another album, then you can start to blow your mind.

Can someone tell me where this band came from?? Because they caught me totally off guard. This cd is one of the greatest thing i've heard in awhile. Listen to 'Everyday' and tell me it's not incredible. GREAT GREAT CD!!!

Quick History of This Providence.

They were originally a three piece band out of Kenmore, WA called Sunday Best, back in late 2001 thru some time in late 2002 or 2003, can't remember.
They played a few shows, a half and half mixture of cover songs and originals. They really weren't very good...and they'd be the first to admit that.
They decided to add a new member to the band, another guitarist. This guitarist (Gavin) joined and they wrote an EP together that they self released. One of the songs on this CD was "Missing Page" which also appears on the new full length, redone and renamed as "Any Romantic Fairytale". They tried to release the EP but due to legal issues (another band named Sunday's Best was too close), they changed their name to This Providence and released what they called "The Sunday Best EP". The EP showed potential, but only 1 of the songs was written by Gavin - "Missing Page/Fairytale" - by far the best on the EP. They recorded some awesome new demos (one of them being Everyday) with producer Casey Bates (Gatsby's American Dream) and put them up on purevolume. Buzz started to grow about this band, and some labels showed interest. They eventually signed to Rocketstar Recordings, and embarked on a west coast tour over the summer of 04. Then they hit the studio to record the upcoming full length "Our World's Divorce" - which is sick. Since then they've played with tons of great bands in mainly seattle shows, including their friends in Gatsby's American Dream, and also with Name Taken, Daphne Loves Derby, bear vs shark, and more. The debut full length drops Nov 16 - GO GET IT.
