boondock saints.

i dont even know if you would classify it as overrated because its more of a cult classic than overrated. but that movie is God-awful.

Troy Duffy may have no talent...maybe just a couple percent but thats bad. And it's not that he even ripped off Tarintino, which he really didn't, it's just that the film is that bad...I think at least.

Awful, awful, trashy, film.

And while I really like Tarininto and his films, about everything he does is overrated. I guarantee you that if someone other than Q.T. did the Kill Bill film(s), it wouldn't nearly have been as praised.

Totally agree about Kill Bill. Good flicks, but come on. Its not THAT good, I still think Reservoir Dogs is his best.

Scarface definately. Good as well, but jeez.

Donnie Darko was one of my all time favs but now EVERYONE raves about and doesn't understand. Taints it all.

Also:

LOTR Trilogy
Pirates of the Caribbean
Sky Captain (sucks SUCKS)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (its alright)

Said from a person who said Friday Night Lights is a "damn good movie". Come on, you're telling me you think Donnie Darko is an overrated movie? Shit I know all these people are like "LoLwTf143 ItS mY FaVoRiTe MoViE!! JaKe Is SoOoOoOo HoT 143 <3!!!" but come on, have you watched it?? I mean ACTUALLY WATCHED IT and understood it? The concept, the idea, what really happens, the aspects of items, people, things. It makes you think, other than Drew Barrymore who was annoying as hell though she produced the movie, every other aspect was well thought out, well shot, and intelligent, and makes you think. Qualities of a great movie.

Scarface is definitely not overrated, the good reviews it gets it deserves and it gets plenty of bad reviews that in my opinion it doesn't deserve. Donnie Darko and Boondock Saints are quite overrated and as big of a fan I am of Tarantino, his movies are overrated and his ego is way too big, I'd hate to remind him that he didn't direct the Shawshank Redemption (my favorite movie so it's a little biased) so he should keep his ego in check. A couple of my favorite movies I do admit being overrated are The Godfather and Goodfellas. I think Spider-Man 2 was very overrated, it got some of the best reviews of the movies this year and ended up being just a decent sequel to a good film.

Yeah, I thought LOTR was a bit overrated. Lost In Translation should've gotten best picture instead of ROTK, because ROTK was nothing new by then.

I don't think donnie darko is overrated, because i think it is truly an amazing film, even though some people overhype it just to fit in. I can't believe noone mentioned this film....

...Fahrenheit 9/11, the most overhyped picture in years. I'm not a pro-Bush guy or anything (I'm anti-GWB), but still... Michael Moore just put this out to persuade people against Bush with no structure or thought at all. The lack of pacing makes it seem like a twelve year old did the editing. And winning the Palme D'Or? Ridiculous... this didn't deserve it at all. I liked bowling for columbine but man... Moore seems like he put no effort into it, just rushed it out for elections.

LOTR? Overrated? I consider LOTR, Star Wars (Originals), and Godfather in holy trinities that may not be messed with. The LotR series was near perfection in film making, and Return of the King taking all it did was a reflection of the amazing accomplishment that the series was. Lost in Translation in itself was overrated, its an overly long and slow character study that feigned itself to be more important than it actually was. It would have been mediocre and swept past if it weren't for Bill Murray being a god amongst men.

Of all five best picture films, Lost in Translation was mos def my least favorite.

The Virgin Suicides was Coppola's best film. I did enjoy it but after all the hype, it just didnt live up.

Heres how I rank Best Picture films.

- ROTK
- Mystic River
- Seabiscuit
- Master and Commander
- Lost in Trans.

Lost In Translation. I really like the movie, but, its so overrated and over hyped it pathetic. It ruins it. People much more than the movie is. Still a good movie. In response to the boondock saints, I really like the movie. And as for ripping of Q.T. that stupid. Since Tarantino is one of the most accused for ripping off movies more than any other film maker, that just seems funny. While I don't think he rips off any movies, a lot of poeple think so. Overrated. Hmmm. How about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Gayness. Quite possibly the most boring movie I have ever seen. I'm sure fans of the book love it because they love seeing the chracters on the big screen, but holy lord. The movie was about a bastard kid finding out that he's gay and going to an all gay school. Basically, come on that's what it's about. The wizard plot is just to sell some more books. It's subterfuge, don't let them fool you. While it is a positive message to young gay readers it wasn't that interesting to me. Kinda lame I think.

Kill Bill - Are you guys serious. This movie was almost as awesome as I am. Almost.

Donnie Dumbass - Interesting movie. But I didn't really get it, I'll admit it.

P.S. I've heard the third Harry Potter was pretty baller due to awesome direction by Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien). I might check it out.
Also I don't hate gays. They're just not as awesome as I am, but it's okay neither is ayone else.

i understand why some people dont like this movie, but the reason a lot of people i know like it is because of the sort of relativity of it all . He goes back in time and lets himself die by being crushed by the engine of his mom and sisters plane, to save a girl he technically never met when it happened. so he saved them all. the girl would never get killed cause she never met him and his sister and mom would have never left because of his death. it's all sort of jumbled together with a bunch of other plot points but thats the basis of the plot. out of curiosity, what loopholes were you talking about?

I respect the love story but, over all it really made me ill. what billy zane did was fucked up but funny (taken that lady's kid to get on a boat), that was the only enjoyment i got out the film. that and hearing my racist great uncle goin "drown dem white white folks, drown em!"(again, fucked up but funny). shitty film though, they could have alternated on the big door. selfish hag (nice bling though).

to save his mother and sister...he didn't have to kill himself.

how did he have dreams about Jack if he never saw him? unless his dreams were a portal to the future as a sorta warning...I can't explain it.

well, i'm not trying to persuade you to like it or "get it" but I still feel like trying to explain,so here goes.

Yes, he used to car to drive through the wormhole, as for how any movie involving time travel you have to read or know some of the crazy theories behind it all,( but just try to use your imagination, did you question it in back to the future?) True he didn't have to die to save his mom and sister, i forget why but someone i was in mos school with explained why he did. And as for being able to see jack was to foreshadow what would happen. And I just remembered, that little beam that told him where to go, helped explain part of the time travel thing.

Last thing before I drop this topic is what the old lady said "every single thing must die alone" so your definately right about the whole uber emo kids thing. To me I think of how when Donnie died he just laid there and laughed, like the moral of the story was" if the one you love is going to die anyways, why bother?"

So I'll agree with you that it's sorta lame and all but when I watch movies like that I always try to imagine myself in that position. It's a movie you have to be in the "mood" to watch.

.

first off it's "Every living creature on earth dies alone" nothing about "Must die alone" big difference

second, all that matter is that the jet engine went through the wormhole. Donnie didn't go back in time using the car, the plane didn't go back in time, only the engine went back in time! alls Donnie's job to do was, to get that engine to fall through the wormhole, that would fix the "hiccup" in the space-time continuom and set things right. Besides, if Donnie used the car to go back, he would still be in the car with a dead Gretchen's body, in the past.

Throwback
11/06/04, 07:46 AM
Okay, no. Donnie did go back in time. Look at his room, its his room from the beginning, and I think he probably would have left her body there. Its all implied.

Also, the whole him dying thing prevents everything. His sister and mother's death, Gretchen's death, Karen's firing, the burning down of that guy's house (his name escapes me), etc.

Plus, him not dying caused the tear in the space-time continuom, so once he sacrificed himself, it set things back into proper motion.

Okay, I'm done, but its one of my all time fav films (and not for emo reasons).
