or i'll just post it here:
Intimacy - Bloc Party
(this is my first attempt at any sort of album review.)
As i had a feeling this album would be their most experimental album to date because of their earlier release of their single, Mercury, the first song off the record, Ares, confirmed it. Ares, the god of war, led off the song with a guitar heavy, chilling riff, subliminally doing what Bloc Party knows how to do best- write social commentary. Mercury has grown on me. It sets the album up nicely, telling the listener that something is different about this album. Halo hits their roots with raw guitar and drums. The song sounds like a track off Plans produced by Weekend In The City vocals. Biko is a nice change of pace. Kele's high range is shown once again. It sounds familiar to Waiting For The 7:18. Trojan Horse has me to believe that between the guitar, fast lyrics and beats that make me believe this drummer has incredible time and tempo, there is a lot going on. Signs is melodically catchy and is probably the track that separates itself from the others the most. One Month Off picks back up sending this album on full steam ahead with angsty lyrics that make you either want to dance or switch the disc to Weekend In The City because you've heard it before. Zepherus is vocally pleasing, mixing chourses and Kele's belting. I beleive the is the first song that does not have any guitar in the entire song. Better Than Heaven keeps the album from fading off towards the end of the album as Weekend In The City did with a stong beat, sounding something like The Cure would put out. The last song on the album, Ion Square, grows with its edgy synth and it's building vocals. It was dissapointing to not hear much bass to this album, but Ion Square finishes the album quite nicely leaving the listener satisfied with an experimental record that although may not outlast the past two albums, leaves a mark on the indie rock genre.
Pleasently supprising, the electronic sounds mix very well with the heavy distorted guitar that's so strong to songs like Helicopter and Banquet. On this record, you never forget that this band is an indie rock band. Sometimes, you will want to classify them as closer to Sigur Ros, than say, The Killers because of a slight post-rock/ambient fee but do not dread, overall this record is no doubt Bloc Party. Fans of both Plans and Weekend In The City. To call this album a series of b-sides from Weekend In The City is rdidiculous. There certaintly are differences, however I don't think the differences are enough to get Intimacy much exposure.
if you are a fan of Bloc Party, Plans or Weekend In The City, I would highly recommend this album to you. If you are new to this British indie rock band, I would suggest you pick up Weekend In The City first.
Rating: B+

The two previous full-lengths bore me to tears and in your review which I'm assuming is somewhat accurate, you state that while Intimacy may be slightly different, the band remains "no doubt Bloc Party". Therefore, yes likely.

Your avatar takes the cake on that one, bud. I'll tell ya what, go listen to some Linkin Park and chug a Red Bull to get yourself all bro'd up. You'd be doing the world alot more good then coming in here stating your worthless opinion about an overhyped, talentless band.

Are you fucking insane? Who forgot to pull out of your ass tonight?
"Bro'd up." Dude, what? Have you seen your own haircut? Fucking Flock of Seagulls looking jackass. You look like you would eventually be on this site (http://www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com/). Fuck off shitdick. Keep thinking music you listen to is better than other people's.
Didn't even know he was into Linkin Park haha.

I don't recall claiming it is one...
If I did though, it's probably due to Linkin Park being abject trash that perpetuates the tradition of dreadful radio rock acts gaining more recognition than innumerable superior bands.

Wah. There's always a better band than 98% of bands out there. Some get famous. Some don't. Deal with it.
I'll continue to listen to CDs like Minutes to Midnight because they're awesome.
Could give two shits if it's "radio rock". I haven't listened to the radio in 5 years. Why would I care if it's music that would be played on the radio? ONOZ CATCHY ROCK MUSIC THAT PEOPLE LIKE LISTENING TO. How horrible!

Wah. There's always a better band than 98% of bands out there. Some get famous. Some don't. Deal with it.
Indeed. In this case, just about every band is better than Linkin Park. Where dealing with it is concerned, I do most of the time. When an atrocious act germane to this issue is brought up though, I'll occasionally discuss things.

They aren't but that's fine.

Not about the radio, it's a matter of warranted recognition.

Catchiness is entirely irrelevant. Good job of being facetious though.

So basically your whole argument is "nah, your opinion is wrong".
lol.
Anyway, Minutes to Midnight is fantastic. One of my favorite albums of 2007. It's a shame you don't like them. Of course, you think Bloc Party's FIRST album is boring, so if you don't like THAT, there's really no hope for you.

Just about every dialogue pertaining to music quality boils down to mere preference. Not sure what more you were expecting from this. Regardless of the points I may bring up, you could simply offer up a trite rebuttal along the lines of "no way" or "I disagree" and we'd find ourselves at an impasse.

There's a difference between stating your opinion and then acting like your opinion is better.
Didn't even know he was into Linkin Park haha.
And that is an exact case of it. There's nothing "haha" about that. Why would someone laugh at someone else liking a rock band? It's just silly.

There's a difference between stating your opinion and then acting like your opinion is better.
There is an implicit sense of superiority in stating an opinion you feel is right (in this case regarding music quality). In that respect, we all act like our views topple others. This goes back to the age old elitism debate and how no one seems to realize that anyone with standards is guilty of it, from the hipsters to the pop-punk kids.
And that is an exact case of it. There's nothing "haha" about that. Why would someone laugh at someone else liking a rock band? It's just silly.
I find it humorous that someone my age enjoys Linkin Park, hence the "haha".

No you'll leave it at that. I'm going to continue to take stabs at your musical tastes in the hope that:
a). They change
b). You decide I'm too big a douche to waste your time and you leave this site
c). Linkin Park rapes you.
a combination of b and c is the preferred option but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Stop being so pretentious. Jeeeez. We can dislike whatever music we want. Ignorant prick.

totally agree. Linkin Park is pretty much a blander and more accessible version of Limp Bizkit, not that Limp Bizkit is raw or anything good.

A shitty vocalist..? Chester has one of the best and most unique voices in rock.

Linkin Park is the epitome of boring band, whereas Limp Bizkit, though terrible, were a fun band back in the day.
