unless you're an elliot smith, depressing folk rock junkie (which i'm not knocking, nebraska is amazing) don't start with nebraska. born to run is his masterpiece, basically what he's known for, and it's rightfully deserved.

Like the rest of the crowd, while not my favorite, Id say Born to Run is a great place to start.

Pretty underrated album but I still think Born to Run is the best starting point/my vote for his best album

"New York City Serenade" is so awesome on that album though. Love it.

Check the edit. Also, the question posed was where to start with The Boss, which which album is best. ;-)

Haha, okay that is true. Fair enough.

I guess the best place to start would be the beginning after all, ha.

I find a lot more people are starting with and listening to only a bands' "best" album, which I find deeply troubling.

greetings, born to run, and born in the usa are my favorite albums by him. nebraska is cool but i don't think it's as good as everyone else thinks it is on here. it doesn't do that much for me.

Anything but Nebraska and The Ghost Of Tom Joad really. While the former is my favorite, not representative of The Boss at all.

B O R N T O R U N is best to start. And best.

Yep, Born to Run. It really is the pivotal piece of his catalog.

i agree with those guys. Born to Run is great, also, personally I'm a big fan of Darkness on the Edge of Town and the River.

Yeah, I think I can agree with that.

^ there's a reason why people want to start with their "best" album though. who wants to start with their worse?

I tend to lose interest after Nebraska. Start at the very beginning

start with born to run because it best represents who bruce is as an icon and his "signature sound" greetings is great and all but it's more raw and very heavy on the free-flowing sing/speak verses that can get grating to alot of people.
