What’s Up Guys, My name Is Greg Thimmes and I come to you from Delaware. Yeah pretty much the middle of nowhere. Anyways I want to ask you guys a few questions about yourselves and the music you are putting out.
First Off the bat, what are your guy’s names and how old are you?
Carlos Teixeira, 27. bass & backing vocals
David Marques, 27 guitar
Joao Marques, 25. drums & backing vocals
Hugo Maia 26, vocals and guitar
Have you all been friends for along time?
David and Joao are brothers and met Hugo in high school. Carlos came later in the picture. He was living in Miami and was asked to join the band, but his old band toured with Fonzie before so there was a relationship there.
What were you doing before you started the band?
Hugo, David and Joao were living in Lisbon skating surfing and going to punk rock shows. Carlos, on the other hand, was going to college and playing some professional tennis and organizing rock concerts in Miami.
Where exactly are you from? US here in the States haven't heard much of you?
We are from the sunny and lovely Lisbon, Portugal which is a small country in Europe, next to Spain. Great beaches, perfect waves.
What inspired you guys to start "Fonzie". Who influenced you the most?
Surf and skate videos. We are really into skateboarding. Plus, listening to the bands on the videos such as Decendents, Pennywise, bad religion, Millencolin, etc. We are punks at heart.
What would you say was the hardest part about establishing yourselves as a punk rock band?
Well, we basically have no life at home because we don't live at home too much. We don't spend much with our family cause we are always on the road leaving everything behind such as jobs, etc. We just to do what we love to do, punk rock.
When did you catch your first break? Your current album, "Wake Up Call" which I basically love to death, What is it particularly about?
I think it's a very positive album, every single song came out very naturally and we had fun recording it. We wanted to write a positive album for the kids since there is a lot of global crap now. We don't want to remind everyone that there is war all over, hunger, violence, corruption and all that stuff. Don't get me wrong, we do care, but I think there are a lot of bands delivering the massage very good. So we want to deliver a positive message that there are good things in this world.
When can we expect a US Tour? And if so, what bands would you like to
play with?
Probably either December 2004, or the beginning of next year and hopefully, the 2005 Warped Tour. We would love to tour with the Clash and the Ramones but that’s seems kind of hard now (joking). We are pretty open-minded and could tour with anyone from punk to emo to rock bands. We love the new Bad Religion stuff. Midtown is cool, Green Day record is amazing. TBS is good. There are so many great bands in this world. It's a good time. Good to see Warped tour is so strong.
Finally, any closing words you have for our readers out there?
First, I would like to thank everyone for giving us the opportunity, cause with out the support of the kids around the world we wouldn’t be here now. We hope to make a lot of new friends over there and hope they will give us the opportunity to expose our music thanks a lot and keep on rocking hard. Please come to our shows and say hi when we are in your town, or country.
