Maybe one weekend I'll actually get this right and will have them up on a Sunday, but with that being said, this is what I've been listening to throughout the week:
Mae (http://www.whatismae.com) - Destination: Beautiful
The album title alone describes this disc, beautiful. It's been awhile since I've listened to this band/album and I never fully got into them with the exception of a few tracks, but after listening to "Tisbury Lane" on their pureVOLUME page (http://www.purevolume.com/mae) and this album straight through again, I'm really starting to appreciate this band for what it is. I know a lot of people who have listened to this band once and haven't "gotten it," but do yourself a favor and at least give them a few more spins. I'm anixously waiting for their next release just to see what they've come up with and to see the direction their heading after the jazzy vibe that was presented on "Tisbury Lane."
Straylight Run (http://www.straylightrun.com) - Self Titled
I know a lot of people were disappointed with this release and granted I like some of the demos better than the re-done versions of some of the songs, but what makes this album so special to me are three of the new tracks. "Sympathy For The Martyr", "Another Word For Desperate", and "Now It's Done" are just tracks chock full of emotion and honesty that I get a chill listening to them each time. I also love the re-done version of "It's For The Best" due to the contributing guest vocals of Nate from The Format (http://www.theformat.com). The sound of his voice on that song just has a very "ironic" feel, but it adds a special spice that I can't put into words.
This Providence (http://www.thisprovidence.com) - Our Worlds Divorce
Yep, I haven't stopped listening to this disc with the exception of a few breaks here and there throughout the last couple of weeks. There's just something about the melodies, hooks and lyrics on this disc that just capture me each time. This is easily one of my favorite albums of the year and I'm sure many of you into the whole Gatsby's American Dream (http://www.gatsbysamericandream.com), Acceptance (http://www.acceptancerock.com), etc. style of music writing and sound will love this disc just as much.

Based on only the Acceptance ep, it's impossible to compare them to Gatsby's. The ep was so Jimmy Eat World, it was painful. But I'll give their new stuff a shot.
Oh, and Gatsby's American Dream is the freaking best band in the multiverse.

i too see very little similarties in the styles of acceptance and gatsby's american dream, and i have the acceptance EP as well as the leaked version of their new album. so i don't know what he was talking about.

Well, I'll break it down. On the new This Providence there are some very similar singing / vocal styles in some parts of the songs that sound very Gatsby's American Dream-ish and just the overall song writing (i.e. metaphors, style of writing lyrics, etc.) is very similar to that of Acceptance and GAD. Just my personal opinion, though.

Yes yes yes.
This providence is amazing.
As are all of the incredible seattle bands. We've just got a style going for us:
Gatsby's American Dream
Acceptance
Emery
Surrounded By Lions (Older stuff)
Roundabout.
Ya. check it.

when will someones recomendations actually have new bands that no ones heard of? its always talking about old bands that everyone knows or new bands that AP talks about, so everyone knows them anyways. just wondering.

I know you can get the This Providence CD from Smart punk but I dont think any retailers that I know of have it I havent even seen it for sale in Seattle. Also anyone in the Seattle area November 17th Gatsby American Dream, This Providence and Daphene Loves Derby play Graceland for FREE its a tough choice for me because Acceptance plays with Amber Pacific and Dead Poetic the same night at Studio 7.

When we or I at least come across a new band that triggers something within side me. Lately I haven't been hearing any "new" bands that have struck any chord with me at all.

Actually, the free show is Nov. 13th - so there's no conflict there. Everyone should go.

The New Straylight is amazing! the only song that i don't like is tool sheds and hot tubs... It just doesn't fit in my opinion....
But even that song can be tolerated... overall this CD is easily 9/10!

Straylight Run was admittedly overhyped. I still enoyed the album, and especially the three songs that Jared mentioned: Now It's Done, Sympathy for the Martyr, and Another Word for Desperate are simply brilliant.
