Im having trouble deciding on a guitar. Im a beginner to intermediate player and this will be my first electric but i still want a solid good quality guitar thats affordable and also lefty. I play alot of blink 182 so thats the tone im looking for. Right now im looking at these two and theres about a $200 price difference but i dont know enough about guitars to really tell the difference so if you fine people could just tell me your opinion that would be helpful

I've had the Epiphone Les Paul Standard for a few years and its done me well. It is Epiphone so you can tell its more cheaply made than something a little nicer. Keep in mind Les Pauls weigh a ton. Between the two, I'd stick with the Standard definitely.

Go for the Les Paul Standard, definitely. The LP-100 isn't really worth your time/money.
But try out a bunch of different guitars (including several Epi LP Standards) in your price range to make sure the LP you get is what you want.

I've got to say hit the standard. Like everybody else is saying already, the quality is where the difference in price arises, so consider that.

I would rock the standard.

gibson and epiphone guitars are both made the same way, they are both made by very expensive computer controlled machines that cut the wood.
that said, the difference in price between the two (other than name) is the hardware and electronics used.
its also pretty well known that most budget brand guitars (ltd, epiphone, squier etc) are all "ghost built" by companies like samick. So your epiphone guitar could be made right next to the jay turser les paul, with that one cost several hundred less but using the same wood, hardware, and electronics.
when I first started seriously playing I used an epiphone standard into a peavey triple xxx. The guitar had so much feedback it was impossible to use live at stage volume. i intended on replacing the pickups with emgs (which i did) so that solved that problem.
beyond that eventually i had to get a better guitar since the hardware (the bridge and tuners) are just cheap and couldnt keep the guitar in tune. those tuners have lower ratios (less turns of the key to make the post turn one full time). that makes it harder to get a precise tune.
if i were you id search ebay for a used gibson lp studio. that will already come with a tune a matic bridge, gibson 498/490 humbuckers, and higher ratio tuners. those are things you are just going to spend money on anyway once you want to get a better sound.

survey says: les paul standard. definitely a quality guitar, both in tone and playability (and appearance for that matter), if you ask me its one of the best you can get under 1,000 dollars and for guitars under 600 there's no contest.
i still play on one of those as my primary guitar. i wish it could have been my first.
it is extremely durable.

There's also a huge difference in the feel of the neck, and quality of woods / finishes as you go up the scale from the Epiphone LP100 to a nice Gibson LP.
I got the LP100 in a package deal with my amp, and I sold it almost immediately because it would not stay in tune. Also, it was setup terrible, the strings were touching the frets when I opened the box, there was a visible bow in the neck, and the intonation was miserable. If you're going to buy your guitar in the store, I would recommend getting the Epiphone Standard, and asking them if they can throw in a free pack of decent strings, put them on the guitar, and set it up for you. If you ask for something small like that, they will usually do it free to make the sale.

Look for a used Epiphone Les Paul custom. They come rather cheap and they're solid guitars.

You can always pull a Kris Roe from The Ataris and flip it over!

i'm a lefty, and just got the 100 in june, and i've had some problems with it already. it seems like its falling apart. the knobs, which were put on backwards in the first place keep falling off. the input on mine falls off sometimes too, and is a pain in the ass to put back on. the sound is pretty nice though. it sucks being a lefty guitarist, because the only other option is a strat or a telocaster.

Incredibly useful input considering OP hadn't mentioned them. Perhaps not everyone likes teles? I know I don't.

standard. theres no comparison.
Get an Epi Les Paul Custom. Easily Gibson tone quality, decent price. Although I heard the price just recently jumped up, when I grabbed mine they were $650.

He knows what he's talking about. I have a Gibson lp studio and I absolutely love her. The difference between the epi and the gibson are quite noticeable, the studio is just a way better sounding and more solid guitar.

They're pretty much the same instrument as a Les Paul Standard only with more money spent on cosmetics.
Not worth it - especially for a beginner.

I'd say if you're going for the Blink sound, Fenders are really good for that.

Hmm, I really don't think so, unless you get something with humbuckers...

I really think the difference between the epi and gibson is substantional. There is no comparison. The gibson sounds and plays so much better. Maybe to a new guitar player you can't notice but I not a great difference. The gibson just feels so much tighter. Plud if you buy the Epi you are only gonna be happy for like 8 months and then your gonna ask yourself why didn't I just save for the gibson. Trust me you are going to end up getting a gibson anyway; might as well get int now. I would bet that if you don't by the gibson you will be trying to in less than a year.

Are you willing to look used? I wouldn't recommend either (if it was my money I'd get http://www.guitarcenter.com/Schecter-Omen-6-2003-Left-Handed-Electric-Guitar-518182-i1149926.gc and pocket the change) but you could probably get better used.

Or http://www.guitarcenter.com/Schecter-C-1-Artist-Limited-Edition-Left-Handed-Electric-Guitar-516751-i1149086.gc if you can stretch your budget. I have a right handed version of this, and let's just say I wanna have sex with it. And I play some pop-punk stuff (although I lean more towards grunge and hardcore punk) with it also.
