yeah, I worked at a kids day camp all summer and one of my kids was this little racist. it just made me sick. I didn't realize it until the end of summer, but once I did I noticed there were certain kids he bullied and they were all black and all younger than him, and it made me so angry. and it's messed up because you have to figure their parents raised them that way, so you can't really talk to their parents about it because they won't care. I'm so glad he's going to be too old to come to my camp again next summer.

we were having a talent show one day with about a week and a half left of camp, and we were killing time before it started and my boss was letting kids come up and tell jokes on the mic. and so this kid comes up and tells a racist joke about mexicans (actually, one I've heard before at my dinner table) and it was really uncomfortable right after and no one laughed and my boss was just like "ooookay, then, moving on." and I remember just thinking to myself that his parents probably talk like that pretty regularly and that's where he learned it. and then I worked about three more days after that and that was when I noticed him picking on those kids. I never confronted him about being racist though, just for being a bully and picking on the younger kids.

I used to pick my battles with my dad. He was super conservative and I couldn't stand it. I have no problem talking with people about their political beliefs now, but my dad took it to a whole 'nother level. He would watch Fox News and listen to Rush Limbaugh all afternoon. Then when I got home he would be watching C-Span and trying to explain to me why the Democrats were going to send this country straight to hell (which is funny because he wasn't even slightly religious).

Come to think of it, he never even really had any of his own beliefs, I think. He mostly just copied whatever he heard or saw on the TV or on the radio. It was kind of annoying.

This is not to say that every Republican is a racist. My father's racism was completely separate from everything else he said and did. Except when he said that there would be no money to pay for me to go to college because minorities would eat it all up before I could get to it.
