According to TheScout (http://www.thescout.net), The Academy Is (http://www.theacademyrock.com)... close to signing a deal with Atlantic.

Christ, this band is getting all sorts of big. They haven't even put out an album on FBR yet. Will there ever be another Remember Maine album now? ghey.

yeah! didnt they recently sign with FBR? what the heck is with them moving to a bigger label without even releasing a cd on FBR!
if you haven't figured it out for yourself by now, let me be the first to tell you that music industry is a ridiculous world.

they're a good band and all...but i think its way soon to commit themselves to a major label. like everyone has said, they haven't even put out an album on FBR.

I wish there would be another Remember Maine CD and a tour with that.

Yeah, I saw them in Austin with Fall Out Boy, and really enjoyed them. My friend who mainly only likes classic rock absolutely loves them. I can't believe Atlantic would sign them though. Either the music industry has gotten better over night, or there's soemthing fishy about this

If they want any sort of credibility or future with a musical career, they're going to have to learn the ladder system. I highly doubt that they have enough fans as it is to sell records on a major, unless the major whores them out. If the major doesn't, then the band will be at the end of their rope.
They definitely seem to have a following which would be great for them to sign to FBR about now. That will allow them to build up a fanbase even more, with national tours, and eventually even a headlining one. After playing this game, they should have majors coming to them. They'd sign a better deal, get better perks, and allow less room for the major label to eat away at their art. Best of luck to them, but this would be a terrible move.

the reason they are making such a jump is cause the new album is off the hook.

If I remember correctly Jamsion/Parker are on Sony. Maybe the label just believes they can make it big with their next record.

this just proves that the only thing you have to do to get signed by a major label is copy whatever the current trend is and be at least a quarter as good as the bands who started/popularized it.

i can't think of one popular band today that sounds like the academy. they are a great band, i just think it's odd they're getting signed to atlantic without releasing a cd on fbr.

wasnt Fall Out Boy basically inked to Island before they did the album on FBR? Im good friends with them and we talked last night, appearently theres also rumors of them already being on Columbia, we laughed about all the rumors. Anyways, maybe they know the ladder system a little better than you think. if the major inked them i doubt the record would even come out next year, so by the time it came out, yes they would have enough fans and touring under their belts.

thats not even proper english let alone an original or good play on words.
it would be...
The Academy Is... Untalented or Fucking Horrible.
I like them, to each their own. If everyone liked the same thing there would only be one musical genre.

I think, but I'm not sure, that the story with FOB is Island had first rights to signing them after Take This.. came out. I dunno if I read that in AP or if it was somewhere on the DVD, I forget, but that's a pretty common thing within the industry nowadays.
About The Academy Is, this could be their one shot to hit a major...take it or leave it. Chances like that don't happen too often. Best of luck to them.

ditto for me. I mean i met William B. at Armor for sleep and he is one of the coolest guys i have ever met because he seems to care about the fans and was excited to hear i knew about Remembe Maine. But hopefully his barefoot on stage ways will not be corrupted by the mainstream.
It is also my opinion (and hope) that this deal will fall through.

william did remember maine before academy, it was acoustic and he put out a full length on LLR. he said he was still going to do RM as a priority last year when the academy first started, but that has obviously changed. i was lucky enough to see him play in march with nick from 504plan, that was the last show he did (to my knowledge).

Remember Maine is the singer from The Academy Is...'s first band. It's only him and an acoustic guitar, very Dashboard-esque. They are on Little League Records.

the only reason they are getting signed (if this is true) is because TBS is huge and the other record companies are going to try to cash in on them by signing bands that sound just like them. its happened a shitload of times and the bands usually get nowhere. look at all the bands that got snatched up when greenday hit big, or blink, or the used.
this band doesnt desreve it, but well... maybe they deserve being dumped like the bastard stepchild unorignal band that they are.

How do they sound like TBS? Where's the dual vocals, screams, ect? They sound more like the Get Up Kids if anything. This band unlike alot of others that are getting signed has talent and class.
