A brilliant classic. Let's spread some love for this amazing film. Jean-Pierre Melville's best work I think and Alain Delon is just brilliant.

Absolutely phenomenal movie. Alain Delon is my favorite actor of all time, if only for this movie. If you liked it you should see Le Cercle Rouge as well.

I was actually just reading about that one, I'm adding it to the top of Netflic Queue right now.
The opening scene is one of the greatest scenes of all time, it's so subtle and yet perfect. Him lying on the bed just smoking is so stirring with how it is handled. I need to buy this movie.

I bought it without ever seeing it. I'm prone to blind buy a lot of Criterion Collection films, but this one really intrigued me, and I absolutely loved it. One of my best purchases ever.

Apparently they are doing a remake of Le Cercle Rouge with Orlando Bloom....wow.

Yeah, playing Alain Delon's role, and I'm going to fucking hate it. Supposedly Alain has some kind of cameo role in it, but still. Ugh. It's going to suck.

I love when that happens. I rented it based soley on the cover and hearing a brief description of the plot. Loved it. I think I'll order it.

If it says Criterion on the DVD, chances are it's worth purchasing. That's how I see it, anyway.
That is, unless the movie is called The Rock or Armageddon. Honestly, what were they thinking?!?!
Also, I like how every Wes Anderson movie is a Criterion film except Darjeeling Limited... but I'm still holding out hope on that one.

Yeah, that's depressing. With all the actors out there and all the people to choose from, him? Honestly, I can't see it being any good.

They just shouldn't remake it! It's so good as is. If they want people to see it, they should re-release it on DVD or do a limited theatrical run like War Games did (although that was in promotion of War Games 2... and I'm still not sure why that was made...)

I would agree with that. I haven't found one that wasn't worth owning to some degree.
Are you serious? The other day, a friend was trying to convince me that Armageddon not only was good but great. I wasn't falling for it.
Haha, I liked Darjeeling Limited, more than he's first two. But then again I'm one of the few who thinks Life Aquatic is the best thing he has ever done.

Hahaha, yeah, I'm serious. I have NO idea why they are Criterion movies. I mean, some of the collection is iffy, but I guess I could understand why someone might think it's important enough to be a Criterion. Except those two. ...and maybe Robocop.
First two? Darjeeling was numero 5!

Haha, yeah, sadly with all the remakes like Italian Job, Ocean's 11 and so on that have done well, it's all the making money that gets stuff like this green lighted. It will be a distaster.

Haha, that's insane. See, I can even understand Robocop. That's a classic in its own right, if not merely for the influence and how nostalgic it feels for a lot of people.
Haha, no I know. I like Darjeeling more than his first two movies. And possibly Royal Tenebaums...

Ohh ok. Bottle Rockets is coming out on Criterion on November 25th, so that's exciting.

Still holding out on Darjeeling, but Royal Tenenbaums is definitely my favorite.

Well apparently Johnny To is directing it and he is obsessed with Melville and Melville doesn't mind him doing a remake. I don't know much about To or the planned remake but I've heard that it shouldn't be that bad.

Hasn't Melville been dead for 35 years?
And I do love it, although honestly, I think Army of Shadows is his best film.
Honestly, see all his films. Even Les Enfants Terribles, which was almost Cocteau's film more than it was his.

Yeah, but Orlando Bloom?
Agreed. You can't defend that choice. That's like barely a half step above Hayden Christiansen.

Haha, I didn't even realize I said that. I meant someone associated with his rights and stuff, because I believe he's still of course credited with the screenplay, which would require someone allowing To to use it.

Yeah, I'll probably end up buying as it is worth the purchase.
Yeah, I think I'm waiting for Darjeeling to come out in a slightly better package as of now I believe it has next to nothing but the film.

Not sure if I've seen Army of Shadows..I think it's the one I haven't seen of his, haha. It's been a while.
