I think it does when you put it out on an album. It's one thing to write a mean song about an ex and saying things you might not actually feel, but it's another to make it an album totally based on sexist rhetoric and then sell it to impressionable young kids.

I don't even think it's okay to refer to your ex in terms like this. That is sexist too. So is Eminem's songs. The difference is that Eminem got way more flak for his lyrics than glassjaw ever did. The problem with what you're saying is you're using all these other examples of things that I don't think are okay. I mean, i see what you're trying to say, and if I didn't think these other things were bad, I'd say you have a good point.

The point you're missing is that we can't really analyze one's lyrics with an expected understanding of what the author meant, we can only really look at what the words say themselves because your basic listener isn't going to have Daryl's life story in front of them when they are hearing the songs. The lyrics are quite demeaning, and there's really no indication that they're about one person because they're left so wide open.

Besides, I think we shouldn't be saying it's okay to dehumanize someone just because they wronged you. Figure out better ways to tell someone to fuck off that aren't propping up sexist power structures. Hell, a song that isn't "shut the fuck up you stupid slut" is going to be a lot better anyway.
