Tell everyone who you are.
Hello there, I am Kate... I sing and play Guitar in the Fight.>
How old are you, and where you from?
I am Twenty years Old and I am from Dudley, West Midlands England.
What got you interested in making music?
As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to make music. It's one of two loves in my life. My parents say its cause they used to play music to me through my moms stomach before I was born.... It's a bit weird, but if that’s what I have to thank for it then fair play.>
When did you realize being in a band is what you wanted to do?
I joined my first band when I was 12. I left school at 14 years old when the band I was in got a record deal. From then on, it's what I've loved, lived and breathed. >
How did "The Fight" come to be?
I quit my old band because I wanted to make music that I was more into. So, me and my brother Jak (our Drummer) just started Jamming and Decided to Form a Band.., we haven't looked back since.>
How did you catch your first break?
Completely by fluke... Me and Matt went to a New Found Glory show in England. After the show we met them and handed a demo to DB, their guitar tech. It made its way into Chads hands and he loved it. Then he got us a show with them, and then he helped us to get a contract in the states. We owe so much to Chad for believing in us.>
What is the motivation behind writing all your songs? Is there a certain
message your trying to put out, or are you basically Punk Rockin Out just to make music.
I think originally frustration was the motivation. Coming from a small town with nothing going on and no music scene was just boring and repetitive. Then the thought of being stuck there, I think is what drove most of the lyrical content.............. I guess the message was just that we are normal kids from a normal place, just like so many other kids all around the world. We all have to go through same shit when we are growing up............ With the actual sound of our music, I think it just kind of happened. We were all listening to bands like Greenday, Rancid and NOFX when we first started playing.
Well you have had the taste of playing in different countries. What is the
main difference you see between US Crowds and UK Crowds?
I get asked this allot, and I never know really what to say. It's hard to Judge things, but I think that UK crowds are pretty crazy. I think that’s mainly because of being able to drink at a younger age legally here. I find though, that because in the U.K a lot more people are drunk at shows, new bands don't get as much attention paid to them. In the states though I think we get more attention because we are English.....Maybe?
Who would be your ideal tour be with. Why would you choose these other
bands?
Honestly, I always see every tour we do as being Ideal. Just because I've made so many friends from all over the place. Right now our ideal tour would be with Graveltrap, Not Katies and Days When I.
What is the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to you while playing a
show?
A really small Guy jumped up onto stage with us and started crowd surfing.. He's only about 3feet tall I think. Then he kept coming onto the stage and kinda dancing. I dedicated a song to him, and since then, we have become good friends with him. his name is Lewis and he is rad.>
If you were not playing in a band, what do you think you would be doing?
I would probably be a producer... That’s what I was going to do if I finished school.
What do you think makes you different from any other band out there?
The fact that we are all in a secret society and really we are running the universe. There is no other band that does that..
Allot of bands seem to be so political out there at the moment. Everyone is
rallying up to rock against bush. Sense you’re from the UK, what are your views on what's currently going on in the world today. Or do you not give a shit? I personally don't give a shit. LOL
I don't really have too much right to comment that much because, I don't really know that much about it... What I do know however, is that what happens in the states affects the UK allot more than I used to believe. I have heard allot of things about bush, and how allot of stuff that he does doesn't seem to make sense or add up. To me it doesn't matter who gets to be president, but I am hoping that it won't be bush.
What keeps you entertained? Being on tour and writing songs is a lengthy
process. What keeps the fight occupied in there spare time.
We always used to skate allot. That kind of faded out over the last year or so. Most of the time we hang out at clubs and bars and stuff. I always seem to be going to allot of shows too... Other than that Star Wars is entertainment at anytime anywhere.>
If you were stranded on a desert Island, which band member would you eat first? And why?
You really are trying to make me think today aren't you? That’s really hard to decide... If I was stranded on a dessert Island with the rest of my band members, I reckon I wouldn't have a chance to eat someone first - I'd get eaten! I'm the most defenseless.
Thanks allot for taking the the to conduct this interview with me.
