i was on both sides of the fence for this issue for awhile but ultimately i decided i dont like the song shop idea because thats when being a musician/songwriter becomes all about the business and none about the creativity. when you're writing an album which will eventually be sold typically you're writing because you're inspired to do so, the motivation comes from within and the money is something nice you get in return that enables you to keep going. but with the song shop hes not writing from his own intuition, some kid paid him 150 dollars so hes writing a song, and thats it, totally heartless, just based on cold cash. it might be more respectable if he did this down the line, when it was clear his band member career was coming to an end and he would need to secure his future. kind of like gabe saporta making the gimmick-driven cobra starship after midtown broke up.
