he looked tired in his match today...but, he has been on a whirlwind run, sort of like Federer was...the question is, can he last like Federer did?
Federer ran on that streak for years...will Nadal last more than a few months. I think he will, but probably mostly cause Federer doesn't have the same drive he did a year or so ago

Great to see Donald Young finally come through and play well after what's been an awful year up to this point. The only thing that's saving Nadal at this point is that he's on the easy half of the draw but I see Andy Murray breaking through to his first grand slam final. I'd love to see Roddick get to Djokovic in the quarters and win that to face Roger but I don't see both of those things happening. I see a Murray/Djokovic or Murray/Federer final with Murray losing either way.

Great to see Blake and Fish get through today but it's unfortunate they have to play each other next. At least that means one of them will get through to the round of 16.
I loved how Roddick played last night but Gulbis for the 2nd round will be the true test. If he can continue playing aggressive with the forehand he should get through.

Coin played really well and even managed her way through the nerves at the end after missing some serves on previous match points.
It'll be interesting to see how Nadal performs tonight. He got a much needed two days off and should be a little sharper than he was on Monday. With Nadal playing the afternoon session on the weekend, the Blake/Fish match will be at night which should be an incredible atmosphere.

I think she's too immature to warrant the number 1 spot. Always shouting at her coach and moaning at herself.

But the ranking points don't lie. It's pretty pathetic that a player could be ranked number one yet has never reached a GS final. That shows the top of the womens game is in fairly bad shape at the moment. Jankovic also plays a ridiculous schedule which is one of the reasons she's so highly ranked.

I don't know if its because players are more tired than usual, or if they are pressing cause its the US Open, but more than any other tourney I've seen in the last 3 or so years, there have been a ton of errors that just should not happen.

It only took 2 and 1/2 sets for Roddick to figure out that he had to be aggressive which turned out to be too late. He should have pushed it to a 5th set since he he was up 30-0 on his serve up 5-4 in the set. I knew he was gonna lose the tiebreak after that.

True...but I also still think he did the right thing. He had to call out Roddick in that scenario...at least in part...just because you can't let a guy say you are a pussy and just accept it. I wish he had done it in his more sarcastic way ("I'm actually surprised I beat him, struggling through all my injuries") or something cheeky, but if that is at the Australian, or Wimbledon, the crowd cheers him for calling Roddick out. The reality is that he dominated Roddick, injured or not, so the crowd was going to dislike him either way
What sucks is that people are being jackasses, yelling out during serves and stuff...I'd flip shit if people were doing that
StandMyBrothers
09/05/08, 03:07 PM

isn't Djokovic the one who got pissed at the crowd at the Olympics during his match versus Nadal?
Possibly...I don't remember
someone care to enlighten to me to what the drama is/was?
Djokovic appeared to have hip/ankle injuries after his last match...so when Roddick was asked about it, he said "isn't it more like 16 injuries"...and later in a press conference, answered similarly by interrupting the question and adding injuries (SARS, the common cold, etc). He said that Djokovic "either calls the trainer qucikly or is the most courageous player ever".
So, after the match where Djokovic had beaten him, fans had been yelling during Djok's serve, booing him, etc...he called out Roddick, and of course the fans booed him
Roddick is in the wrong for being so adamant in his jokes...Djok is wrong because he does call the trainer too quickly sometimes, and he didn't need to call out Roddick on court neccesarily, post-game interview would have worked just as well.

If you read the post-match interview, he actually says that he realized Roddick was joking and was very impulsive in what he said on court and was wrong. He also said that he was a little peeved at the Roddick comments, but not because Roddick said them, but because of the way the press had been posting it everywhere and how people were calling him a faker. He said that he doesn't appreciate people criticizing him for calling out a trainer when he's already not feeling 100% and jsut wants to make sure that he's ok.
Apparently afterwards in the locker room, the two of them talked and sorted it all out as well.

Roddick has always been a dick so I agree. and I don't see how anyone could have gotten offended at Novak's impressions. they were in good fun and people who were offended need to lighten up a little. that said, I really dislike Novak's parents and he's been letting the crowds get in his head too much this year.

09/05/08, 11:33 PM
my views on the djokovic situation:
i think that djokovic has the right the call the injury timeout and bring the trainer out. hes not going over the time limit or using it as a way of playing possum or else he would make a bigger deal out of his injuries. if i were in his position and wasnt feeling 100% I would do the same, whether it be a quick tape job on a change-over or a full injury timeout.
he totally had the right to call out roddick. while andy always tries to be funny, when he made the comments in the interview, he came off as an asshole imo. even if he thinks that nole is faking his injuries, he didnt have to say the shit he said. it sucks how the fans can be disrespectful at times and feel the need to boo players. there's really no need for that, unless a player intentionally hits a ball boy or something...

Does this move Roger back into First or what does he need to do to get back on top? He's actually further away from #1 then he was going into the Open. Federer had to win just to gain enough points from the tournament to stay where he was. Nadal, improving from a quarterfinal loss last year to a semifinal loss this year improved his finish and thus finished with more points than he had going in. Federer can still finish #1 but he's gonna have to almost win out to do it. I think Novak may overtake him slightly for #2 but unless he defends in Australia, Federer will likely be back to that spot.
