There are so many to choose from: Alanis, Liz, Natalie, Jewel, Lisa, Fiona. Some are better than others, others are better than most. I still maintain that Jagged Little Pill is great morning music. Jewel lost me with Intuition -- especially the music video.
Personally, I've really been digging Maggie (Walters) lately. She's got a genuine, authentic sound and doesn't come across at all over-produced. Ch-ch-check her out.

you are about to catch some serious flack from the AP.NET thread police.most of them will be between 16-19 and their world is primarily composed of living with their parents so ignore what they say.
One user said how much she hated Metro Station, when she stated HelloGoodbye as one of her favorite bands.Age=14.

i really like charlotte martin on your shore i think is better than stromata. i was also dealing with two deaths of loved ones at the time i discovered on your shore. i find out most of the songs on on your shore were about two friends of hers that committed suicide i thought was kind ironic. i'm still a fan of charlotte she has a beautiful voice and plays the piano very pretty.

haha, hey jewel is better than any artists on the radio now. while she may not be a preference of mine, i can appreciate the music of most pop artists who can clearly write for themselves, because that alone makes them better.

There's nothing wrong with Jewel I suppose. I've just never heard her name come up in any serious music discussion before. Made me chuckle is all.
And I think your right, at the current time I really can't think of any artists on the average radio station that I enjoy more than Jewel. Although I don't particularly enjoy her either lol. There were better artists in her prime though.

Ok so for accuracy's sake I went onto my local pop crap radio stations site and I looked at their recently played list.
I found 3 pop artists I like more then Jewel lol. Jason Mraz, Gavin Degraw, and John Mayer. But that's just my humble opinion.

i dont see what makes either of them much better. gavin degraw especially sucks, he tries to create the sassy know-it-all attitude that has been done time and time again but he fails his own style by writing such shitty horrible conversational lyrics.
john mayer is just not a fair namedrop he has got to be one of the best pop artists of all time period. i dont even really consider him pop, i should say one of the best radio mainstream artists of all time.

I DISAGREE!!!!! But that's ok. Besides even if I did agree, I'd have to say still better than Jewel.
Mmmm I definitely say pop. But that's just me.

Oddly enough I really do like that one Fiona song a lot. I never bothered to listen to her other stuff for some reason.
I don't really know what falls into the singer-songwriter category.. is it a certain sound or just the fact that you both sing and write your own songs.. But if I was to make a guess, Paul Simon is pretty amazing.

Springsteen duh.
Quick question. Does being a singer/songwriter encompass a certain sound, or just someone who both writes and sings their own music?

It has to be an act where only one guy is involved in any of the writing process and he sings the songs, plus it's frequently under his own name that he performs although not always as with Iron and Wine or Dashboard Confessional.
Alright thanks for cleaing that up then :-d
Tom Waits is my favorite singer-songwriter in that case.

I completely forgot about 49:00 and apparently you can't buy it anymore. Glad I picked it up. It was actually only 43:55 with a "bonus" track that I stumbled upon which, of course, made it 49:00 even.

That'd be interesting. I haven't actually listened to Momofuku yet but I've always been a bigger fan of Bruce and I loved Magic, so I might just end up voting for that one anyway haha.
I will definitely have to give Momofuku a listen though.
