So I just went to get my hair cut, and the lady that cut my hair was all "You have REALLY thin hair." and she looked at me like I was a hopeless case. I asked her for help and she was like Try washing it every day and get rid of the grease because that's making the hair look thinner than it is too." I wash it every other day cause a friend said washing it every day is bad. I got some new shampoos that say they're deep cleaning and remove residue so maybe that will help. Anyone have any tips to help me make my hair not so thin?

My hair is really thin.

I just cut it myself.

Washing your hair every day can be unhealthy.

When you wash your hair too often, it takes away the natural oils your hair needs to stay healthy. Now, that doesn't mean you can't shower every day. Just put your hair up or skip the shampoo and condition.

Do you use any heat on on your hair, such as a flat iron or curling iron? If so, that may be the cause to your thin hair. Next time you use any heat on your hair, make sure to use a hair serum that protects your hair from heat. But remember, it may cause your hair to look more oily than it is so use it in moderation and make sure to use less on the days when you don't shampoo your hair.

Now, on to your main question. If you want to make your hair less thin, try using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. I'm not sure if they'll work, but it's worth a try.

Just be sure to keep your hair as healthy as possible.

Yeah I need to get rid of all the oils because it's making so much that it's making it greasy!

Nope I never straighten or anything. I do use warm water when i shower though. Could that be the problem?

Any brands you reccommend? I was using Garnier body and volume one but it didn't seem to work that good.

Yeah, Garnier is not good, especially for oily types. I recommend a salon quality brand. It's extra $ but so worth it. (My hair tends to be oily too).

Yes. I used to do this as well, and the second day I didn't straighten my hair, it felt a million times softer/healthier.

Your hair may be producing so much oil because it's making up for what you have been washing away. It might be best to wash it less often so it doesn't produce so much oil.

It's hard for me to recommend a shampoo and conditioner for you because everyone's hair is different and I've used millions of shampos and conditioners and they've all worked the same for me.

Right now, I'm using Biolage. It's expensive but I bought it while it was on sale. I like it although I didn't really notice a change in my hair other than it made it smell really good.

Sometimes it is good to invest in an expensive shampoo and conditioner cause they can really do the trick although you can find a product that has the same effect for less money at a drug store.

One thing that I would recommend is a conditioner that is nice and thick (like Biolage) because whenever I used a conditioner that seemed watered down, it made my hair dry.

Also, you may want to try a leave in conditioner at night. This might help with the greasiness and you can probably find one that is volumizing.

Keep in mind that your diet can also effect the health of your hair.

Yes.

Whenever you use heat on your hair, you are most likely damaging it. That is why it is good to invest in a hair serum that protects your hair against heat and a ceramic flat iron.

Ceramic flat irons are good because the heat spreads evenly throught the plates and they stay smooth longer.

Yeah, I'd definitely go with layers and use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Or one for fine hair, for some added thickness. I've heard from some friends Dove Volumizing shampoos work well because they're pretty gentle. I would try and aim for not washing your hair everyday because it will damage it, but since it's gets oily, that's good to do it every other day. Good luck! :)

If you don't wash your hair everyday(which you shouldn't) try combing a little baby powder through your hair starting at your scalp...just a little cause it will make your hair look white. And for fine hair try either a root lifter or moose.

maiabean

Try using a thickening shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is oily then you should shampoo everyday. And since your hair is thin, don't use conditioner every time you shampoo because conditioner has the tendency to weigh hair down. Same goes for products. Don't over do it 'cause products tend to weigh hair down, giving it a flat appearance.

Also whoever said to flip your head over and blowdry and shake it like a dog.. Lol that will definitely give you some volume. Just make sure you're blow drying in the direction the hair grows. Blow drying against hair's natural growth pattern will be damaging to the hair cuticle. Also use some sort of heat serum to protect your hair when blow drying or using a flat iron.

Edit.. Like a week later.

In all seriousness, put baking soda in your volumizing shampoo and rub it in at your roots. Don't do it too often, but it will get rid of the oils. Instead of baby powder to get rid of oil, I used to use (cheap) loose face powder. I would put it in and then turn my head upside down and brush it well. A round brush will also help to give it lift.

Also, after I put on face lotion, I wash my hands before I touch my hair in the morning.
I have fine hair and I had a big problem with oily hair for many years, but I have outgrown it. So maybe there's hope for you!

Can I see a picture of your head? You can hide your face and whatever, just want to see your hair. I'd return that shampoo, those deep cleansing shampoos are for swimmers and people that use a ton of products. They will strip the shit out of your hair, making it more likely to break. This is bad when you have fine hair to begin with.

Mine is fine but also ringlet-curly. I've had a lot of luck with Redken Smooth Down. It's pricey but just buy it on sale, you can usually get a liter for around $20 and it lasts 5-6 months.

hmm...Your hair doesn't look hopelessly fine or thin in the picture...maybe find a stylist that specializes in fine hair? Or one that has that type of hair so they can give you tips on what works for them? I mean you probably won't need to get another haircut for a while but it may be something you want to look into, just the fact your stylist gave you a hopeless look makes me question her!

What brand is the shampoo? Most supermarket brands say they are safe for daily use but that doesn't necessarily mean they are good for daily use. Like it won't make your hair fall out but there might be better options, you know?

If you have to blowdry you hair, do it with your hair down, if you use hairspray, do it with your hair down. Don't use wax or anything, it makes your hair crazy heavy. Use as little products as you can. Buy a proper more expensive shampoo and don't use conditioner at the roots, just the ends. STOP using Garnier whatever because it contains Glycerol (or was it Glycol?) that is the same stuff as they use in moisterizer (makes your hair moisterized(?) but greasy). Keep on not washing it every day because that's just bad. Eat a lot of healthy food and get your vitamins right because that apperantly helps my hair grow like crazy.
Hope that helps Andrea :)

thin hair is thin hair, not much you can do about it.

Dont use shampoo's with slicone in them, it will make your hair shiny for a while but it collects up and damages your hair.

Dont bleach or use permanent dyes on your hair...what ever anyone says, they have now scientifically proved that the chemicals damage hair follicles and thin hair on some people.

every day wise...use matt styling products and maybe think about styles where the hair is backcombed slightly/ teased, maybe even think about some extensions (but not permanant as they also damage hair - clip in ones are pretty good, they stay in, they are cheap, you can swap and change them and they give a more full look to your hair.)

otherwise, do a britney and get over it!
