View Full Version : Lets get the party stoppin'

There are songs that can get a party started if things aren't going very well. There are also songs that can stop a party or a get together dead in it's tracks. It could be in a good way sometimes (in an "Almost Famous" sing along sort of way), but most of the time it will earn you the derision of all the party goers. That one song that will come on at random and just screw up everyone's night for five minutes or so.

Case in point: Party with some people from work tonight. Everyone is having a great time until Starship's "We Built This City" comes on. Granted, it is widely regarded as the worst song ever recorded, but it still threw everyone off as if Fred Durst had entered the room and everyone started acting very awkward.

What are some other songs that will just kill a good party vibe?

i don't know why, but anytime ub40's version of "red red wine" comes on, i'm leaving

This song gets stuck in my head for days after I hear it. It actually replaced "We Built This City" for which shitty song was stuck in my head.

lol, i always get songs stuck in my head, so if its a really bad song i've learned to plug my ears and walk away. it's not worth it.

I'm sure that The Locust would kill a party, if not, the noise will at least kill everyone's buzz.

I'm sure that The Locust would kill a party, if not, the noise will at least kill everyone's buzz. Strangely enough I have one friend for whom that wouldn't kill the party. He'd probably be psyched. As for everyone else, thet probably just wouldn't know what the hell to think.

Well, there will always be that guy. But overall, I think people would get pissed off.

Another one is Jandek... If you've never heard him before, you're not missing out at all.

If people at a party are listening to "Dave", then you probably shouldn't be there to begin with.

agreed but I have a brother who LOVES him, and a few of our mutual friends are into him too. sometimes it's just unaviodable that someone assults my ears with his stuff.

I just kind of lump Dave in that category with John Mayer where if I heard it at a party, I would seriously question if I was really at a party at all.

it's coo.
I have been subjected to Dave Matthews on so many occasions that I think I've sort of become desensitized. You mentioned lumping John Mayer in with Dave Matthews, I hate that guy more every time I am forced to hear his shitty music. He too kills the party for me.

i've learned to carry my ipod everytime my brother is having a party, or is at a party where him and his friends can sneak in the shit they listen to. sometimes, digital music saves.

I can stand John Mayer's newer, more bluesy type stuff, but I would never listen to it at a party. His older stuff off his first two albums is pretty terrible.

I hate that dude's voice. Everything of his that I've heard is awful. I remember when I was a teenager in Boston and he would be playing outside of the Newbury Street subway stop. The guy never made any money.

I wouldn't have given any money. I'd kick him in the face.

You wouldn't believe how many people I know actually like John Mayer. and some of these people have decent taste in music other wise. I've never understood it. I'll give him that he can play guitar, cause you have to give credit where it's due. he can play, but he is not a good songwriter, and as I said, that voice. it makes me want to punch babies.

I have so far managed to get through life without ever having listened to O.A.R. From what I hear I have been quite lucky.
