Rap is very very good. Nas, Jurassic 5, Mos Def, Gym Class Heroes, Jay-Z, NWA, Dr. Dre etc. are a lot better than bands like Hawthorne Heights.

Eminem is an excellent rapper if I may say so. Sure, all his joke singles just make him out life another rapper, but some of the more harder tracks on his albums (Especially Marshall Mathers LP, like Kim, Criminal and The Way I Am) are very impressive. He can pull some great lyrics out when he feels like it

what most of you are talking about anyway is probably Hip Hop (not even good hip hop) which is a different genre, that would be like someone calling hardcore, heavy metal, just because they both have screaming sure they have some similarities but they are really not the same

listen to the lyrics of Nas, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Common and others they are 100 times better than most of the lyrics in the "punk" genre because they rap about a wide variety of topics instead of ex-girlfriends, love etc, it's refreshing
and also people who call rap "Retards Atempting Poetry" piss me off, do you know how hard it is to pull off credible rhymes, fit it to the confines of a constant beat and make it flow, and at the same time maintain originality, and make the song your own?

The "rap" you see on tv in most cases is the equivilent of Nickleback

however in the rap world Nas, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Common, Mobb Deep, and the old school hip hop artists like KRS-One, Rakim, NWA, etc are lyrcially the equivilent to Connor Oberst, Tim Kasher, Elliott Smith, and other great artists, known for their poetry applied to music

As for Eminem. He's some of the only rap I can sit down and listen to. He's always good for some laughs, and some of his tracks are very impressive lyrically. So, nothing negative coming from me on that boat.
