Anyone read any of the John Carter series books?

They're old and actually pretty awesome. Could make for a sick movie.

I wish Ed Norton would get back on adapting Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem. Probably my favorite book, and there was big talk a while back that he'd be writing it and starring in it, but i think its on hold.

I think he specifically said he would never give rights for his novels to be adapted into movies.

Yeah, I wonder if he ever will, I remember there was a letter of him reviewing Indiana Jones, great stuff.

Crazy to know he's alive at this moment, I wonder what the the hell he's up too, he could be dead for all society knows.

I doubt it. I want to see the version of Catcher he saw that pissed him off. I think it was made-for-tv or something. I have wondered what he was up to as well. Thinking he will just pump out a random story at some point.

it is pretty insane if you think about it. i honestly think he might be one of the top 10 people alive i would pick to have a dinner conversation with (although it would probably be either amazingly intriguing or terribly boring).

A decent adaptation of The Catcher In The Rye or other Salinger works.

rebel without a cause is amazing. and i know it supposedly is not based on the book and theres a lot of difference, but the attitudes and themes are basically identical, imo.

As shitty as this is going to sound, its going to be pretty cool when he finally does pass away. You know he has so much stuff written and not published that he has stashed away. I've heard rumours that he has dozens of books completed.

Just started this, it is really boring, did not like No Country For Old Men (the movie, not read the book)

Also Catcher in the Rye would suck as a film, the reason that it's good is because of it being in the book medium, that makes it realy effective as being meaningful in a way that a film probably could not manage. Not much happens in the book so it would be a pretty boring film, also there is a film that is as close Catcher in the Rhy addaptation it is called Kirby Goes Down with Macholoy Calcon.

Do you think House of Leaves would make a good movie? There have been so many people who have attempted and failed to mount a new version of The Fountainhead. It always seems to fall through.

I don't necessarily think that House of Leaves would make a good movie. It would have to be six hours long and at times make very little sense. It could work as two separate movies (one for Navidson and one for Johnny), but as one long movie something would get lost. As two movies it would just start to get confusing.

I think adaptations of the Tender Bar by J.R. Mohringer, and Oh The Glory of It All by Sean Wilsey could be cool if done right, but the only correct answer to this is Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Exactly what I came in here to say. I loved that book (maybe because I had a similar experience because my mother's friend owns a bar). I would love to see those 'characters' on screen.

Also, "Miss Arizona" by Irvine Welsh.

Hollywood destroys books like this. Incredibly smart move on his part. I'm glad there are some honorary writers out there who keep the dignity of their masterpieces instead of cashing them in for box office seats.

Awful book.

Try rereading it. I read it three summers ago and absolutely HATED it. And I wrote a letter to my english teacher yelling at him for making us read such a boring book, calling it a waste of time because it got absolutely nowhere.

I reread it this summer, and everything just started to click. Not saying it will for you, but give it another chance. I went from hating it to loving it, maybe you will too.

I think that half the charm in that book relies on it being a book. That's why Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sucked so much is because half the awesomeness of that book could only be related on page with seeing the words and the way they were arranged. For The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the greatness of the book comes from how you can see the narrator changing and growing up as a person through their writing, which would be much harder to do on screen.

I wasn't aware of this fact... well that's a bummer! I'm too lazy to link to any of the stories, but apparently they did a test screening of it and a bunch of young kids were scared out of their minds. Apparently there needs to be extensive reshoots done, but even then Spike Jonze has say over the final cut. The reason it doesn't have a release date yet is because neither side has budged on the direction the movie should take.
