Alright, this post had to be made because everyone sounds like they'd choose this album over their first born. The first couple songs are pretty good, but the tail end is some of the worst music I have ever heard, I couldn't even finish a few tracks. I thought Bleed American was a great direction for the band, embracing the pop that they had hinted at for years and sort of grew into. But this is a bizarre step backwards or sideways or something into a played out, boring, overall cheesy sound.

Please tell me somebody else out there agrees with me...

I'm going to agree with you a little, I don't think this was the album of the year at all. I like the album, don't get me wrong, but it isn't anything that special. I loved both bleed american and clarity, but you are right bleed american was some good pop music. But the new album is definitely overrated.

i also feel that Clarity was overrated and it only got as much hype as it did because the band is Jimmy Eat World, not because it's a great record

I would have to say that the new Jimmy Eat World Album is ACE ok it may not be as good as Static provails and Clarity but it still rocks. Jimmy Eat World are a great band and i know that everyone has different opinions but come on i mean that album is good and people that are saying its crap and is a drag are you sure you arent listening to avril lavigne/the rasmus or some shit like that!

I think the new JEW is really good, but I do think it's overrated. But I really don't see how "the tail end is some of the worst music I have ever heard"... their not that bad... I've heard way worse music.
I don't know, I honestly could not listen to a few songs, they really grated on me that bad. I lump all the "I can't finish this song" songs into the same "worst music I've ever heard" category. If I can't listen to it, they're all on the same level of badness in my book.

I really enjoy most of the album. But there are a couple of songs that just drag really bad. But overall it is a very good album.

I agree that Futures is overrated but it's still a great cd and there are some awesome songs on it. Bleed American was really good though and it was a little strange when I first popped Futures in to listen.....

Can't say that im all that keen on their new stuff. This is hardly objective since i havent heard all of the album, but the stuff i have heard, while still being good 'ol Jimmy, i dont really have the same connection with. Good as background music though

I like Futures a lot, but it didn't give me the same fuzzy feelings as bleed american. I had an instant grin on my face when I heard that, I didn't this time. So yeah, I agree with you.

i think its a pretty solid album and fairly deserving of the hype it gets..but the thing i dont really agree with is the particular songs that people are talking up. i've heard people say "23 makes me cry everytime i hear it", and "kill is the best song ever". i mean, they're good songs, and i can understand if some people have a thing for them, but i dont understand how so many people can call that the song of the year. meh.

Yes, Futures is way overrated in my book. I love Clarity with all my heart, but this bastard child of Bleed American and Clarity is truly worse than both in my book. I give Futures a 5.5-6/10, which means "mediocre, get over it".

What songs are bad at the end of Futures? The only song at the end that I think is subpar is Nothingwrong which is still a solid rock song in the same vein as Blister.

Night Drive is so peaceful and 23 is just stellar.

Overrated???? How is that album overrated when it was because of that album and it's sales that Captol wanted to get rid of them?? It was so UNDER Rated. Now everyone is in love with it because this type of music is popular (as well as Jimmy Eat World is) and it is AN AMAZING CD.

Do I really have to write like a 1 1/2 page responce on WHY this album is amazing?? Because I really dont feel like typing all that much, but I will and it will just be too annoying to read. The album is amazing and original (YES ORIGINAL), Lyrically, Musically. If you dont dig it cause its not your style, great, grand, wonderful, but you cant say its not an original cd because seirously the shit on that CD and in the songs are so unique and creative.

i just bought the cd yesterday. i hadnt gotten past the first 3 tracks until today because it was in my cd player in my car. the first 3 sounded great, and i was excited to hear the rest. but when i did, i was extremely dissapointed. i guess they feel their fans wanted more songs like 'hear you me' or something. but thats what pop-culture will do to ya.

Sorry bro..."23" is one of the best JEW songs of all time.
And while the first five tracks are definitely the most solid, none of it is atrocious.
Except that cherry lipstick one. it's catchy as hell and blows.

Definitely somewhere in my Top 5 albums of all time. The only thing wrong with it is that Polaris and Nothingwrong should be switched around in the tracklisting. Polaris/Night Drive/23 would be the best 1-2-3 slap to finish an album ever.

Futures is solid, albeit likely their 3rd best CD. Clarity is perfect, Bleed is amazing, and Futures comes in third as a solid album. I dig on Static Prevails alot too.

this album was the first album i heard from jew and it kinda turned me off of them. going back and listening to it now i find that i like it better but it wasn't until i gave bleed american and clarity a spin that i realized why everyone loves jew so much.

Well, the album version of Drugs or Me is REALLY boring, and Kill is kind of dull but i love every other track of this CD. It's a strong album and i dunno bout cheesy. Take a listen again buddy, maybe you'll change your mind. Also, have you heard the Drugs or Me (Styrofoam Mix) from the Stay On My Side Tonight Ep? It's much better.

This was the first Jimmy Eat World album I listened to, I think it's a brilliant. The first track futures is such a good opener! Then you've got Just Tonight, Kill, This World You Love, Pain, Drugs Or Me, all nice songs. Work & Polaris are BEAUTS!
SO I PRETTY MUCH LOVE THE ALBUM!
I really like Jimmy Eat World, but I can't be the only one who prefers Futures to their other albums, right?!

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but Futures is actually my favorite Jimmy album. You can't go wrong with Futures, Work, Kill, The World You Love, and 23 all on the same disc. However, there are definitely a couple duds, notably Drugs Or Me and Night Drive. BUT the strength of the best songs still makes it my favorite.

I love this album and it's one of my all time favorites. I can listen to the whole album and not skip a single song. My favorites from it would have to be Kill, Drugs Or Me, and 23. Also, I can rank my album order, but I haven't listened to Static Prevails or their S/T debut. I'm sure my opinion will be disregarded because of this, but eh, what the hell =]

I think Futures is JEW's best album. Not to say it's a perfect album, but it has the largest amount of good songs on it. To be honest, I think the OP meant to say Bleed American. Futures starts out weaker than it finishes, imo. 23 is one of their best songs(although personally I prefer Work and Kill). Bleed starts off very strong and finishes as imo, their weakest effort, other than Invented.

Futures is up there for me.. but I guess I'm kind of bias because I don't think JEW has made a bad record. I don't hate "Invented." I think it's solid.. obviously not like their past efforts.. there's a few bad/filler songs on it (I HATE Higher Devotion) but I don't mind it.. I mean I don't think you can even consider it in the same league as BA or Futures, based on the type of music itself. Invented is def. my least fav JEW album though. But as many others would disagree, "Chase This Light" is in my top 3.

At first, I didn't like Futures at all. I thought it was one of their weaker albums. After a while, though, it really started to grow on me. "Work" and "Kill" are two of my favorite JEW songs. I would definitely rank it as one of their best.
