View Full Version : What do you hate about the SCENE??

Alright so i just went to The Used show last night and i found myself getting frustrated a lot. Here's a few to start it off:

Studded belts: Ok Ok, I know if you where a studded belt you are transformed into a punk rocker and i know punk is just so trendy right now so everyone has to have two. But why??? STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! First off one of the definitions of being punk is to not follow trends and to be oiginal. So why do you have to wear this 'accessory''? Isn't showing up to the concert enough.

You're fucking up the scene.

Also

Trucker Hats: Don't get me started on this.

hm, that fact that they all look the same. when i went to fallfest, which had like, the used, fall out boy, elseworth, tbs, mbr, and ummmm that was it. i've never seen so many kids dressed the same, talking the same, like EXACTLY alike. so stupid.

I know it's so funny because in reality they are all trying to be different. By wearing a bands t-shirt no one has heard of or by wearing their studded belt outside of the loops, not even really on.

yeah, it's so incredibly lame. do they not know, that they look just like everyone else? god if i ever dressed that way i hope someone would kill me, because i would not want to look exactly the same as everyone else.

the fact there is a "scene"

I wish it was back in the old days when it wasn't so cool. I mean i know the bands wouldn't be making so much money. But damnit i want to see the bands i love in a smaller venue with less 14 year girls screaming "I LOVE YOU ________ (enter singers name here)" "Marry Me" with their studded belts and fishnet stockings.

Dude I can understand why you hate the scene for a few reasons but the reason you come up with is Studed Belts?? Come on, first those belts have been around for so long, how about the fact that dudes wear chick paints and if you dont "you're not hardcore enough" or that every single person now has to have really black hair, spiked everywhere and a labret peircing, to be "into" the scene. Like seriously, I understand if thats your thing and all but it just seems people are doing it "to fit in" and all this "fashion core" crap, so terrible. Music doesnt require fashion.

People need to stop worrying about how other people dress and what popular crap they listen to and get on with their own style of music. Seriously, the amount of "punks" I've seen complaining about the last kid they saw with studded wristbands, chains and a Busted shirt who claimed they were punk is ridiculous

If people stopped worrying about everyone else's lives and gor in with their own, it would be a better place. Not perfect, but still there would be less worry of being judged for liking a style and going along with a trend.

Sure, I don't follow the latest fashions (I don't care what you say, moshers are just townies dressed in pink and black) and I don't have to have the new Atticus shirt, or the latest Used CD, or any shit like that. But it's not like I judge people that do do that. If they want to think they are "scene", let them. What fucking harm is it doing to you?

Nate_RAWKS
11/01/04, 10:29 AM
I was just stating some things that really bothered me. Is there a problem with this?? i have an opinion on things don't I. i just thought other people would agree with me and have some of their own 'pet peeves'.

I hate when people make fun of guys for wearing tight jeans. Who gives a shit, if guys want to wear tight jeans then let them. People always make generalizations and assumptions about people that dress a certain way. Ooh, you wear a arm band, you think you're punk rock! Or.. you wear chick jeans, you're just trying to be emo! Maybe people wear certain things because they enjoy it, ever thought of that?

The thing that I don't like about the scene is the fact that everyone is so elitist about everything. If you like a different band then someone else, they'll criticize the hell out of you and start fights on forums like this. Then, the only way that they get a sense of self-gratification is if they make fun of someone for not using perfect grammar. It's the Internet; no one spells correctly and no one cares to. The Scene is way too elitist for my taste and it just gives such a bad representation of what the Scene should really be about: great music and a tight-knit community of people who will pick you up at shows if you fall, etc.

The Scene right now is ridiculous.

You have great points. I've always tried to think like this it just bothers me that the scene is so trendy right now. That's my biggest problem. I know i shouldn't care what anyone wears. It's just these damn little girls trying to be different but not being different at all. I want the scene to be filled with music lovers and not just with people that go to a show because it's cool. I'm pretty sure once most of these kids grow up they won't be listeing to this type of music anyways.

I just despise people who have certain articles of clothing that're completely unnecessary. Studded belt...fine it holds your pantaloons up...two belts?! now that's just pointless. Or those stupid rope thingies some girls wear...that's not a belt ok...it serves no function...but I hate people who just have the studded belt around their waist but not being used as a belt.

You can feed a fucking village of starving Africans with the money you spend for that belt...that's why other countries hate the US...

I know what you mean. Sometimes I just see pre-teen after pre-teen walking around town thinking they are the punkest things to walk the Earth. But I don't rant about them. I just feel sorry for them, out living their lives like their idols and not giving 2 thoughts about their own. It's depressing really, but it's their choice.

I can't say I've never been embarressed. You know what it feels like to hear people saying they love MCR because they are on the cover of Kerrang magazine, while I've been listening to them for about a year? It sucks, but I know that it's just another phase. As soon as the next even remotely emo band hits the covers, MCR will fall out of place and in the pile with the rest, while I can still like them without looking like a genetic retard

Just ignore them and think about it in a years time, when everything will have moved on.

I agree, all the n00bs (I freakin love that word) at gigs are pretty annoyin, running around screaming because they just went in a pit for the first time, and jumpin up to guys saying "my friend really fancies you, you want to go out with her?".

Everyone was new to gigs at one time, but not everyone was a n00b, it takes a special kind of tard to be one of them.

i don't mind the obscure band shirts as long as the person wearing it isn't an elitist ass. but sometimes i have the urge to make up band names and put it on a shirt and mess with scenesters.
but i do have a problem with people who are there just because a band is trendy at the moment and just stand around or walk away when a band they haven't heard about is playing. i go to concerts to be surrounded by people who are as passionate about music as i am, who know at least a majority of the words to the songs and who respect the unknown bands and at least give them a chance. i hate those little girls who scream about a band member's "hottness" and give people dirty looks when they get bumped into or when someone is singing their hearts out along with the front man.

Also

Trucker Hats: Don't get me started on this.

that is soooooo true. I was at a green day concert a while ago and everyone was dressed like billie joe or one of them. Its really pathetic. i like studded belts, but, punk or not, trucker hats arent cool

This is a few pages too late, but MCR are generic and terrible anyways, so don't worry about being considered one of the brainless trend jumpers for liking them, rather consider yourself a brainless person with bad taste in music.

I never got the whole trucker hat thing. My granduncle has worn his for God knows how long, isn't that already a sign that they were NEVER cool?!

On the other hand, studded belts are ok, but COUNTRY BELTS are cooler! hahaha :D

I am so UNscene, haha, I don't dress "punk" at all, I've always thought it was kind of silly. I had friends who didn't know anything about any bands but they would come to concerts with me and put on studded shit. I thought it was ridiculous. My "style" has been described as 'skater-prep' and I'm cool with that. I love the music and going to the shows, and talking about all the stuff on this forum. But I can't ever picture myself in studded crap. It just isn't me, I'd just feel fake and kinda stupid I guess.

If people wanna wear whatever, thats fine. I couldn't care less if people want to look silly (not to say that they all do), my only big complaint comes with all the studded crap when people are pushing around in the pit or I'm pressed up against someone and i have a whole bunch of metal bumps constantly jabbing my and grinding against my skin. I'm wearing a long sleeved t-shirt next time, I swear, my arms kill if I wear normal t-shirts.

Honestly, I don't really care.

I respect the people who don't strive to be scene, identify with the kids who are just starting to figure out where they're going or what they are, and envy the naivety of the kids who don't know any better yet but they're trying.

I sorta have to agree with you, its happened to me before. I HATE that feeling with a passion. I just push them back or shove my elbow into their side. Im still wearing my studded belts though. I have a whole bunch of them in different colors.
