piano songs?

anything by ben folds, because he's amazing, and as far as his most "beautiful" songs... "lullabye" (ben folds five), which happens to be in my top 3 favorite songs ever, "gracie" about his daughter, "missing the war" and "video" (both by the five). i could go on and on...

kind of embarrassing, but i really like patrick stump's piano cover of "tom traubert's blues."

rufus wainwright's cover of "across the universe" and "hallelujah" (though it doesn't really touch jeff buckley's version...).

also, not so much on the piano front, i would recommend the decemberists' "california one/youth and beauty brigade", their cover of "bridges and balloons" by joanna newsom, "on the bus mall", "shiny"... just about anything colin meloy touches turns out amazing.

i also second (or third?) the suggestion of "the trapeze swinger" by iron & wine.

oh, man, there are so many.

Some of my favorites have been mentioned, but here's a few more that are "beautiful" to me in particular ways (some less obvious than others):

Joni Mitchell -- "The Last Time I Saw Richard"
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds with PJ Harvey -- "Henry Lee" (Morbid, but beautiful)
Radiohead -- "Kid A" (see "Henry Lee")
Bonnie "Prince" Billy -- "Knockturne"
My Bloody Valentine -- "To Here Knows When"
The Decemberists -- "I Was Meant for the Stage"
Bruce Springsteen -- "Nebraska" (see "Henry Lee")
