So I'm not really looking for any help in this situation because I don't think any of you could give me any help, but this is just more of a rant.
I fuckin' hate my car. For some reason it decides it sparatically doesn't want to start. I can't predict when it's going to happen, it just happens. I go out to go to class today and think to myself "I bet you it's not going to start" and what happens, it doesn't fuckin' start! I had some guy look at it a couple weeks ago, but he said he couldn't determine what was really making it not start until he could look at it when it wasn't starting. So here I am, stuck at home, no where to go. I know most of you would think "sweet, you don't have to go to class!", but no, not sweet. It really stresses me out because the material I'm going over in my classes this year is pretty difficult and I can't really afford to miss a class.
So this fuckin' sucks. I really hate my life sometimes...

my 10 year old nissan sentra is a soldier. i've rear ended one person, been rear ended three times, side swiped once, backed into a fence, both my visors have been ripped off, there's a hole in the passenger's side door where the lock button was pushed into the door panel, my dash doesn't light up anymore, the trunk latch doesn't work, and there has been enough alcohol spilled in my interior to rival a puff daddy video.
but the air still works and it runs, therefore.. it's gonna last me until i can afford a mercedes benz.
kara, i think the problem with your car is that it just wants to die. so i have two words for you: scrap metal. good luck

Sheesh, I thought my car was in bad shape. :)
I've already replaced the transmission, engine, starter, clutch, radiator, wheel bearings in the front, brakes in the front...hrm, I think that's it. This is all in the past 3 years.
My exterior and interior of the car is still in pretty good shape though. The only real problem with the exterior is that it needs a new paint job just because it is old and the paint is starting to fade and there's chips here and there. Otherwise there's really no rust and I think there's only a small ding on one of the sides. Everyone who sees it says it's in really good shape.
The interior is in pretty good shape as well. Some of the things that are starting to die are the power locks, just because the wiring is old and my blower for my heater and AC is kind of sparatic when it decides it wants to run and when it doesn't, but once again due to the wiring is old. I really don't know what else is wrong with the interior.
And I know people sit and say, time to get a new car, but here's the thing...I don't have enough for a car at all and my parents don't have enough money really for anything either, but if they did it would only be for a used car. If they bough a used car for me there's the potential of the same problems going wrong with that car that have already gone wrong with my car, so it's pretty much just a better bet to fix whatever is currently wrong with my car. The problem I'm having right now probably is going to be that big or that expensive, but it's just a pain in the ass because it just randomly doesn't want to start. It would be so much easier if I was still living at home and my dad could just take it out to his shop and look at it.
I really want to get a Toyota Tacoma though eventually and keep my current car and just kind of store it and when I get money fix it up. I dunno, I see nostalgic (sp?) value in cars. I cried when we gave my first car away to my brother.
if your looking for good deals on cars try police auctions, i know one guy who bought an old porsche 911 for 800 bucks, and now it's worth like 20 G's cuz its a collectors car. one of the guys from my old auto academy class bought a 95 dodge neon for $250 and then him and another guy from our class went driving all crazy around town and rolled it down a hill. they were okay but they just left the car, it stayed there for like 2 weeks before the city had it towed..... those were the good ol' days

Hrm, that's a good idea. I really like my car though, it just sucks that it has so many stupid little problems all the time, but I guess that's what you get with an old car. I used to drive a '81 Datsun pickup. That's the one we gave to my brother (basically because him and his family were really poor, they still are, and they needed the help), but he ended up driving off a cliff and totalled it. He's fine though.
I'd really like to fix up Bucky (that's my car's name...lol), but being a poor college student I don't quite have the money right now. I got it undercoated and rustproofed this summer since I worked at a detail shop and I had some kid I worked with do it for really cheap. It's in really good shape, but it's just all these dumb ass small problems that are pissing me off. I wish I was birthed with immediate car knownledge like most guys. haha
i know what you mean about having a lot of little problems, my first car was a 89 pontiac sunbird. my dad got it for me when i got my permit cause my mom said she wasn't going to drive me to his house anymore (cause he lives about 30 miles away) and he needed me to help run his bike shop. so it worked out well for me. but the car kept having problems. anyways, i was working on it during my auto class and i found the problem. since you said you're not " automotively inclined" to be pc i'll just say that there was a busted hose and it was causing a small oil leak. after school i started driving to Kragens to get the part to fix it and out of nowhere the engine started clunking and smoking. i found out when i pulled over that the small hole had made it self a big hole and my engine was running w/ no oil. the engine was blown, and my mom didn't want to have to drive me to school or my dads so she told him that if he didn't get it fixed or get me another car she was going to sue for back childsupport and alimony. about 2 weeks later my dad and i were going to pick up some parts and he said that the car wouldn't be fixed for another month. we ended up driving by a used car sale lot,and he said "lets check it out." we ended walkin around for a while and he said if i could find one for around 8g's he'd be willing to get it. the best car i found around that was a 01 mitsubishi mirage (this was in 02) so it was still a pretty new car. it was a little more than we originally expected but he has good credit so we were able to get it.
so i guess i was lucky, my mom blackmailed my dad into getting me my car. that helped and the fact that i started working for my dad when i was 12 and he'd pay me peanuts compared to his other workers, even the ones i worked harder and did more than. what other kids at 12 were building 8-12 bikes a day, doing repairs like changing tires and calibrating racing bikes, selling them, and also sometimes running a smaller shop (that ran in about 1-2G's a day renting and selling bikes, rollerblades, and various beach equipment) by themselves. so i guess i worked for that car over the long run. well, that's karma for ya. "you only get what you give"
