Who?
Brooklyn quartet that uses unique percussion and rhythm to give Aloha-ish songwriting a unique urgency. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Sean Greenhalgh produces their newest album, Migration.
How Is It?
The keys are delightful, considering the topic matters the album lyrically covers. From views on a mother becoming a Balinese holy person, and the conversations that led to understanding - poverty, volcanic eruptions, Communist purges - to feelings on "existing in a place you don't belong." It's hard to describe this band's entire instrumental facet, however. Its layered, but singular. Unorthodox, though rooted in many traditional elements (not all you'll recognize). "Homebreaker" goes from sounding like a plausible soundtrack for the desert scene in The Doors, to jumpy and slapdash. Hence the band is unpredictable, but Migration is thoroughly satisfying. Takka Takka know how to come in to a project with a heaping amount of ideas and influence, and have it all come together. I promise you'll be very-near-literally swept up in this band's experimental touch on established resonance and candor.
