Looks like My American Heart (http://www.myamericanheartrock.com) have been getting some special attention by one major label in particular.

I know for sure they have an offer from Columbia. My brother's fiance works in their marketing department and they've been the talk of the place lately.

Plus, with those new tracks they just added....I doubt it will be long before they're gone.

You have to remember....these tracks are demos....the band has never worked with a real producer, nor spent more than a few hundred bucks to record.

With somebody like a Trombino or a Giordano, they'd rip it up.

Nice to see San Diego bands that aren't shitty pop-punk getting some recognition

yea but its even worse when its screamy type bands who wear tight pants and play no talent ass music get recognition.

A: It is a baaaad idea to sign to a major when you're that young

B: I do not think My American Heart is that good at all, can't stand the singers voice.

That's my roomates two cents.

i'll agree, i think its a bad move going from no label to a major.

It's a bad idea for any band that's young to sign to a major label, just look at what happened to MxPx with Tooth and Nail. Personally I love these guys and I hope they get a good deal. These guys seem to know what they're doing since they've been looked at by major labels for a long time and haven't signed with anyone yet. I'm sure they'll be able to get a top notch entertainment lawyer living in the SoCal area which will prevent them from getting taken advantage of completely. Besides they're asian, and if you have an asian guitar player you automatically are good in my book...and they're what 3/4 asian(I'm not racist so don't take it as that, I've just noticed bands with asian guitar players are fucking awesome)?

Looks mean a lot, hence image consultants. You'd be suprised how many labels push images and styles onto bands. Looks help sell records. period.

I personally don't mind them..in fact, for their relatively young age i'm very impressed....but it is definitely a bad move jumping right to a major.

They were originally on Tooth and Nail and the owner of T&N is a millionare so even though they aren't a major they have a huge audience that listens to them, although that is mainly because of MxPx. Also shouldn't indie labels be less cut throat and less money whores than Majors? By saying that they aren't a major makes it look even worse for what happened to them, in case no one knows T&N released records of MxPx that they didn't want released because all it was, was b-sides and different versions of songs and was purely for profit 'cause they needed some quick cash.

you know the state of music is so fucking stale when kids start saying that bands don't sound great without the help of a good producer. This band is terrible. A good producer would make them sound better? What ever happened to having "talent"?

The EP cost under $1200 to record, because it was @ Love Juice Labs.

heres my input:

Bands Image - If you judge a band by their looks, somethings wrong with YOU. Talent and image are 2 totally different things. Please dont bring up, they have a "fat" guitar player. Who the hell cares. Can you look at TBS's guitarist.. And how big are they?? Im just saying dont rip on their image, at least at this point.. But if thats what you think, good, thats your opinion.. Go buy the justin timberlake cd... (right?)

Someone else made a good point about image selling records, to a degree it does but in this sense - "fat kids in tight pants" thats uncalled for.

Recording Costs/Producer - When a band is unsigned and they're trying to release an ep the cost of the project is pretty hefty.. Artwork, Cd Manufacturing, Recording Fee's, Mixing/mastering (if its seperate) (distro if they choose) whole bunch of different factors. And my view is, My American Heart recorded that EP to not mainly sell a shitload of copies, but to gain attention from labels. Show them, hey, we can do this ourselves pretty well, if you guys signed us and supported us, we'd do it 10x better.. (more funds, then better distrobution... everything like that) You dont need a top notch producer if your band is half decently good when your unsigned.. Its a totally different ballgame if you are on a label.

Another thing that makes these guys amaizing is their age. Even know they say their music has already matured, im sure their still going to keep maturing musically in the future. Their next release might be even better. I dont think they've reached their full potential yet.

Also, about signing to a major right away... That could be good or bad. Depending how much they know, or if they got an excellent lawyer so they wouldnt get ripped up. (labels might take advantage of em, underground to major label..)

Also give it to em, they are 3/4 asian. I guarentee everyone can name at least one asian musician thats extremely talented.
Lead singers voice is different. Unique..

I think these guys work hard and deserve a lot..

Thanks for reading my views..

I am sorry, is that not the dumbest thing you've ever heard? I like this band, dont get me wrong, but I have heard a million unsigned bands with demos that sound like a work of art. You're suppose to have tracks that sound like you're working "with somebody like a trombino or a giordano" before you get signed, that's the whole logic of the attraction of a&r to an unsigned band. get with it.
