View Full Version : Favorite Female Artists (Offical Thread)

chipdip18

I used the search function and found a lot of garbage, so here's something offical. I'm not a fan of too many, but Rilo Kiley is probably my favorite. This thread does include male and female duel acts, (Straylight Run, etc.) just as long as the female does actually front the band also.

I'm in the process of getting into Rilo Kiley. I have Under The Blacklight at the moment which I think is decent. I plan to explore further into their back catalogue soon. Eisley is a favourite of mine. I also recently got into Sons And Daughters, again, their newest album and i'll explore further soon. Straylight Run are great. I think that covers it.

More Adventurous is the next album you should get by Rilo Kiley. I'm not a huge fan of Sons And Daughters. I remember when i worked at Pac Sun they played one of their songs and it came off as a cheesy musical song to me.

Ok, cool. Are they all worth listening to? How does Under The Blacklight compare to their other material (in terms of quality and style)?

More Adventurous is better. I'm actually not the right person to ask, seeing as i only have these two albums. But MA is a pretty pop-influenced, but really shows off Jenny Lewis' voice. Each song is pretty well crafted, and you make it through the whole album. It's great indie-pop music.

Okay, i'll check that one out next. I'll probably just work backwards through their catalogue.

Jenny Lewis has a great voice. As a general question to anyone, is her solo work worth checking out?

the bird & the bee really surprised me. when i heard their last (/only?) release a while back i wrote them off as another shallow, myspace-y, cash in on the trend, sound haha. i could be very very wrong here, but that's the vibe i got. might be worth a revisit though

I've yet to give her a real listen.

yeah her good material in my opinion is spread out across her discography so i cant really rec you an album, the only thing is theres a trend of more just complex solo guitar instrumentals on her first album and debut EP, whereas the newer stuff tends to be more pop oriented (although not much, theres really just more focus on a main melody and she even sings on some songs but its less pop sensible than most of what i listen to still.)

theguy77
02/09/09, 04:07 PM
"neanderthal" and "can anyone who's ever heard this really be a bad person?" are my favorite instrumentals while "life being what it is" and "i never said i love you" are my favorites with vocals, if that helps.
