so i'm signing up for my SAT's and you get to send your scores to four colleges for free. so far i picked East Stroudsburg University just because it's the closest to me. my question is how far did you go away from home to go to a college/university. i'm undecided on my major and my cum. GPA is currently an 82. is it worth leaving the state your in to go to a college if you can go to one just as good in your own state? i was thinking about either staying in PA or going to a state close like MA. thoughts?
also if you could recommend me some colleges/university's for someone with a GPA like mine it would be much appreciated. east coast preferably.

your GPA is an 82?
and that would be what on a 4.0 scale, exactly?
it just depends on what you want.
i hated az, so i decided to go out-of-state
but i chose a college in socal that was an 8-hr drive away
so, away from home, but still relatively close

haha shit, man... 82 for a GPA?!
but what do you want to major in? that is usually a pretty big influence on where to go to school...
i went to Philadelphia University for Graphic Design, but ended up not liking it and now i'm in Marketing, both of which are big majors here.

my school record says Cum. GPA 81.587. i guess theres a difference between GPA and Cum. GPA?

I would imagine it's 81.587/100, which would be a 3.26 on a 4.0 scale.
That said, there's nothing wrong with going to college in-state. Especially since you live in PA, if you want to go far away you can and still be in-state. The main advantage is obviously the cost, and it's not like PA is lacking in colleges/universities.

hah. that's really weird.
most schools now, that's not even the highest, because of AP, etc.
the valedictorian of my high school had a 4.4 or something equally outrageous

cost should be your main factor in decided if you want to stay in state or not. PA has some decent colleges, so it shouldn't be hard to stay in-state if you want. Picking a major is your most important objective, because you don't want to end up at a school that doesn't offer the major you want.

i have to disagree.
yes, cost is a large part of going to college, and it should definitely factor in
that being said, it shouldn't be the main factor
there's always loans/scholarships/work

i think you need to find something with a reasonable cost, a good enough range of majors that they would have yours (when you choose) or have one you would maybe like to choose if you go into college undeclared.
also find out is they have good financial aid/loans/etc. and see if you like the school: size, ideals, etc.
oh and i left my state (hawaii) because i hated it and am not at the university of portland (in oregon) and i love it here. i looked at the school in general/its ideals. the cost is a lot here... but it came down me being in a school i'd like to learn from and would enjoy going to.
so when you pick some schools cost is not the most important but a main factor... check out the school & cost. it comes down to what you like.

Having some idea of what you want to major in or at least what you want to do is usually a good idea. I specifically picked my school because I'd heard good things about the journalism program. I decided to go out of state and it's expensive, but the school I go to (Utica College) tends to give out a lot of money, so my fees aren't outrageous or anything.
By the way, I have tons of friends that go to East Stroudsburg and love it. They have really good education and bio programs.

yeah. a lot of people who graduate from my high school who don't have scholarships to somewhere else for sports or anything usually end up going to ESU or Kutztown. ever since i started high school i knew thats where i'd end up. maybe penn state berks than switch to main campus after two years but i'm not sure thats for me.

Short version of the story is that my family has no money, and it was either here or community college.

School/class size is also something to think about. There's only around 3,000 kids at my school and I prefer that to a huge school because I really have one-on-one time with professors and it's easier to connect with them and get help if I need it. It also seems easier to get involved with stuff around campus.

I started with school size. There's such a huge difference between small schools and big ones that you definitely want to figure out early on which one you'd prefer. Then look at programs you're interested in, and then look at acceptance rates and financial aid and stuff.
