I doubt I'll ever study abroad (my program is too specific), but I do have to do 3 co-ops, hopefully on the East Coast somewhere.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I never understood the purpose of studying abroad. Maybe it's because I've had the opportunity to travel a lot more than most people my age, but I just don't get it.

It's usually a lot cheaper to travel through a study program then to try to do all of the same things on your own. At least it was in my case when I went to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Plus, you get more hands-on experience and I think I learned a lot more by listening to our guides and professors talk as we hiked in the rainforest and on the islands then I ever would have listening to a classroom lecture or reading a textbook. Another case would be someone learning a foreign language. You're going to learn it a lot faster by being immersed in a country where everyone speaks the language fluently and you are forced to use it on a regular basis. Plus, the traveling has a huge draw. I had never been out of the U.S. before or even seen the ocean. Plus, when am I ever going to have another reason to go to Ecuador?

But yeah, some classes do seem kind of pointless other than just to travel somewhere. I can't think of specific ones off the top of my head. But it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for someone to spend a semester in China or something to study math. Even if it is just the travel, I think it's worth it since a lot of people aren't really going to have/take the opportunity to go to these places at any other point in their lives.

it's different actually living somewhere and being a resident there for an entire semester or year than just visiting with a tour group for 2 weeks. i've visited japan and parts of europe and nothing really sticks out in my mind other than the fact that i went there, but i lived in the philippines for two years and the things i remember from that time period are things that i probably wouldn't have experienced if i had just stayed there for a week. i think that's the whole point of the study abroad program.

i want to study abroad, but i'm not going to graduate school and i graduate next year, so i don't have time to do it. i'm hoping to travel for work though.

I am either my last semester of my Senior year or next summer to Ireland. (I picked my last semester my Senior year so I could stay in Ireland and pos. stay there for a year when I get my citizenship) I can't wait, its the most beautiful country I have ever seen.

Spring of my Junior year we have the opportunity (if you want to and your grades are good enough) to travel to the University of Monash in Australia, Reading University in England or Hamburg University? in Germany. My two friends wanna go to Reading cuz this guy said there was a pub in the dorms. I've already lived in England (loved it) so I'm looking at Australia (if possible).

I was an exchange student during my grade 11 year for an entire year to Sweden. It was SO AMAZING. If you have the opportunity, YOU HAVE TO GO. REALLY. How can I emphasize this more?! I'm also going away to Aus. for the 2nd semester my 2nd year as a part of my work semester... I can't wait.
