I figured you'd be the one to respond to that question since you're the bioengineer. :)

I have to do a 5 page, 2 column technical document on something, so I decided to do this. It really shouldn't be that difficult, I've found a lot of information, it's just deciphering it all that will be the hardest part.

I also have to do a 20 minute power point presentation, but that shouldn't be too bad, just have to remember all my material. I have to dress up for it though, so that sucks. :P

This guy needed like life saving surgery. So a guy comes in, does all the preperations, and does the surgery. It's a success. All this other stuff happens, and they ask his name or something. And he's like, "Oh, I'm not a doctory; but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night."

looks as If I'll be among the first to make full use of this. aight so in my chem131 class they give us these weekly quizzes and this one question about intermolecular bonding is an uber bitch...tell me what you guys think...

For the compounds I to VII pick the letter that corresponds to the correct interactions between particles of that particular compound.
If more than one type of interaction exists for a compound, pick the letter that corresponds to the strongest interaction.

a) Ion-Ion b) Ion-Dipole c) Dipole-Dipole
d) Hydrogen bonds e) Dipole-Induced Dipole f) Dispersion forces
g) Metal bonds h) Covalent bonds

I. solid K2SO3 II. liquid KNO2 III. liquid BF3

IV. solid HCl V. solid Al

VI. graphite VII. solid H2O

You must input your answers, in order from I to VII in one single group without spaces between,
i.e., bhfdaac would be a correct answer format

I have nine more tries on this question...I've already tried aaecghd and that was wrong. thanks for any help.

holy crap...that looks vicious...well actually...there should be a pattern in regards to coefficients

well you know that the power of X will increase by 1 (so you have x^1, x^2, x^3...x^15)...now the coefficients of those...there should also be a pattern...

you know the first term will be x^15 and the last term will be 15!. The x^14 term will have a coefficent of (1+2+3+...+15). I guess look for a pattern for the middle terms. Maybe its close to the binominal formula?... i dunno. I'd try to do it out and help but i've gotta figure out how to factor 4,165,073,376,607 into prime factors. No joke. I think it just means that the US should give free healthcare to all it's citizens. Essentially try and pick a side and discuss the pros but also write a concessionary discussing the con/alternative. So in this case, you might say "yes, many can't afford healthcare so therefore socialized medicine is a good idea"...and your concessionary paragraph would be "this will cause higher taxes which will affect the middle class/bourgeoisie". It should of course have a lot more points than just those two.

reference France's situation in your argument and compare how realistically it'd progress versus the idealistic perception of it.

Useless Homework Excuses

These are some excuses that most probably won't be believed by the average teacher (or anyone, come to think of it) ;-)

I couldn't write yesterday afternoon, I don't understand it, my hand just refused to write. I don't know what got into it, it was like it had a mind of its own, it just wouldn't respond to what I told it to do.

I couldn't find my mind... I was sure I had it backed up on a disk somewhere, but I just couldn't find it yesterday.

I'm afraid I simply had better things to do.

My dog looked so lonely yesterday, I didn't have the heart to leave him all alone, so I decided to spend some time with him. I lost track of time, and by the time I finally got to my homework, I realised my dog had licked my hand so much that it had become paralyzed.

I had a very difficult choice to make: go to the beach with friends, or sit and do my homework. I chose to go to the beach, because my friends are more important to me than your homework will ever be.

I did do it all, but before I got a chance to save, my book crashed and I lost it all.

My pen ran out of ink, so I went to buy another pen, but I got lost on my way back and eventually got taken home by a tourist who luckily had a map with him. By that time it was late, and I tried my pen but I found it was a dud, and I couldn't go back again or I would never find my way home.

I have to design something that represents rhythm. It should cause the viewer to hear some sort of beat or rhythm while viewing my art. I have no clue where to start.Just think of how a lot of people live their lives by some sort of rhythm - albeit monotonous. They wake up and do the same thing everyday. If a chance to be spontaneous arises, they don't even take it. Their eyes can't be opened to anything else. It's bourgeois, it's repetitious, it's dull. To them, every day flows the same way as the last. I hope that helps you.

I'd be cool with just that.Oh yeah, I am just now realizing how competitive advertising is. But this was the only artsy major that this crappy school had. lol. I'm going to a community college right now, i'll probably be transfering over to another school that deals more in the art careers.

It's kind of good though since you're not too sure if it's right for you and you can be exposed to other classes that might change your mind with what you want to do. I always thought art therapy was cool since I like psychology too and it's a great combination.

i wouldn't talk about people not listening to music. mainstream music has made some people have a lower value of music for a long team. i think it's definitely possible to talk about how the value of music has been lowered with downloading and increased availability of rare tracks and such. also, you could talk about fashions involved in different scenes and how it takes focus away and brings wrongful judgements to genres. take whatever ideas from that you like.

Explain
James Madison argued that a democratic government was safest in an "extended republic" because no single faction could dominate. Explain what Madison meant and give evidence that both supports and refutes this claim.

Chemistry problem:

Using conversion factors:

Given that water weighs 1 g/cm3, how many pounds does one ft3 (cubic foot) of water weigh? (454 g = 1 lb, 2.54 cm = 1 in)

Anyone up for this?

alyssa_k
09/08/06, 07:27 PM
I tried it the way that I was taught to do converstions and got this:
1 ft3 = 12in3 (x 2.54cm3)
= 30.48cm3
= 30.48g (since one gram of water is equal to one cubic cm of water)
Let x be mass of 1 cubic foot of water
x = 30.48g/454g
x = 0.067lbs

I am not positive that is how it should be done or if it is correct as I have never used feet or inches in school before but I hope that it helps.

Yeah the bastard threw me for a loop because he IS Canadian, and therefore stresses that everything be in metric units.

But then he turns around and asks us to convert OUT of the Metric System. Crazy fucking man.

Distributive Property.

(6X + 18) + (5ax + 15 a)

Factor out like terms on either side of the +

6(X+3) + 5a(X+3)

I don't remember what the rule is called, but you then combine the terms in parentheses and separately combine the terms outside the parentheses, so you end up with:

(X+3) 2 (squared) (6+5a)

I dont think this will be a help since it was posted a few days ago but you factor out the (x+3) in the equation since both terms have it in common. I dont know how to explain it other than this but lets say that (x+3)=b, making the equation 6b+5ab. If you were asked to factor that the answer would be (b)(6+5a), but since b=(x+3), the answer is really (x+3)(6+5a).

i had to do this once. I started with memorizing 5 and once i got those down i would memorize 5 more and keep writing them down. It sucks.. good luck... it helps if you organize the polyatomic ions by their charge... you will start to see a patern with adding extra oxygens to the ions and stuff. There is no easy way to do this

im in calculus and i need some help. over break we have these 2 problems we have to do and i have no idea how calculus is involved. its one of those problems where u have 6 people and each bought different cars, they have differnt names, different color, bought it at a different time and you have to match it all up from the clues they give you. and the clues are like george boght it before the one whos color is blue. i mean its alot of tedious work and i really dont know how to get started...

If you post the actual problem, maybe I can help. I'm in Calculus IV, although I don't ever remember doing those types of problems in earlier Calculus. It was mostly deritivites and finding the area under the curve. More mathmatical approaches. But either way, I can give it a shot.

God dammit. I have homework due tomorrow and I'm in Asia without my book.

So, for my public policy class, identify complementarity in policies/programs. I need a somewhat detailed answer. My inclination is to think that it means that policies/programs established come in pairs because they build upon each other. Anybody?

c'mon, it's one of the easiest chemistry things. i had to memorize them when i was a freshman.

to memorize, i write the same thing over and over until i got it.
and, if you don't get these things, memorize first, and then try to understand, cause if you try to get it first, and it just doesnt get into your head, you may not learn them in time for a test, exam, whatever, and if you have already memorized them, you'll have more time to try and understand. at least for me, it works like this.

I need to present arguments FOR and AGAINST the war in Iraq, and I have really no idea where to begin, and im not exactly an expert in that field. Does anyone have any thought about this war? My teacher hasnt said anything about what I should concentrate on, so Im sort confused..

So... What positive, if anything, is there about this war? And what's negative about it?

i don't think my points are gonna be really helpful, cause even though my geography teacher used to talk a lot about it all, i never payed attention and i always sucked at geography. but anyway, i'm gonna give it a try...

against:
kills a lotta people for nothing
it's come to a point where it's pointless
iraqi people need their freedom (in their own way), and their own government
it's not up to the us to decide what's better or nor for iraq.

Well, positivity in this case has to do with a lot of political issues, and really leaves societal issues in its wake. You could address the idea of American exceptionalism, and idea that Americans have always needed a war, in order to display our morality and "innocence" to the world; essentially, why God is on our side. This idea is multi-faceted and includes a variety of points, and is something i could probably write you a 25 page paper on right now. This includes the same reasons why we ventured into war with Vietnam and Korea, and why we're in Iraq and possibly will meander into Iran at some point as well. Looking at this in a positive light, which is difficult, it is possible to see us bringing democracy to other nations, as has been stated. Ridding Iraq of Saddam was not entirely a bad thing either. Securing oil deposits, even though we get very little from Iraq/Kuwait could prove helpful. War has been proven to improve the economy, but only temporary...at first, the US economy did jump, that is no longer the case. Working to possibly include Iraq in trade networks for the future is actually a very positive outcome, hopefully businesses will boom, allowing many underprivileged minorities (women, etc) in Iraq to finally have more of a say in issues within Iraq.

I shouldn't need to underline the negatives here, they speak for themselves.

Finals. Fuck. I. Never. Actually. Learned. Shit.

I have part two of my statistics final tomorrow. He gave us a practice final to work on, and I got through most of it before getting stumped on the following problems:

In an upcoming presidential election it is believed that 38% of all voters will vote for candidate Smith. One thousand prospective voters are interviewed.

23. What is the approximate probability that at least 400 of those interviewed plan to vote for candidate Smith?

24. What is the approximate probability that between 375 and 425 of those interviewed plan to vote for candidate Smith?

Can someone with some statistical knowledge please help me with these two problems, or at least the steps to get them set up and solveable? I believe that they are binomial distributions or whatever, but I can't seem to find my notes over that subject.....

Nevermind, I figured it out while studying with some classmates before the final. I ended up getting a 90% on the final and a 72% in the class, which is pretty good considering I slacked off for half the semester, didn't turn in about 10 of the 30 assignments, and got a 37/100 on one of the tests.

For Physics. It's due by 10 PM tonight so can please someone help me out and also show me how to do it.

1. A car comes to a bridge during a storm and finds the bridge washed out. The driver must get to the other side, so he decides to try leaping it with his car. The side the car is on is 19.5 m above the river, while the opposite side is a mere 1.7 m above the river. The river itself is a raging torrent 58.0 m wide.

How fast should the car be traveling just as it leaves the cliff in order just to clear the river and land safely on the opposite side?
What is the speed of the car just before it lands safely on the other side?

2. A man stands on the roof of a building of height 13.3 m and throws a rock with a velocity of magnitude 31.8 m/s at an angle of 30.5 degrees above the horizontal. You can ignore air resistance.

Calculate the maximum height above the roof reached by the rock.
Calculate the magnitude of the velocity of the rock just before it strikes the ground.
Calculate the horizontal distance from the base of the building to the point where the rock strikes the ground.

3. As a ship is approaching the dock at 45.0 cm/s, an important piece of landing equipment needs to be thrown to it before it can dock. This equipment is thrown at 15.0 m/s at 60.0 degreesabove the horizontal from the top of a tower at the edge of the water, 8.75 m above the ship's deck

For this equipment to land at the front of the ship, at what distance D from the dock should the ship be when the equipment is thrown? Air resistance can be neglected.

4. A demolition crew uses dynamite to blow an old building apart. Debris from the explosion flies off in all directions, and is later found at distances up to a distance 58.0 m from the explosion.

Find the maximum speed at which debris was blown outward by the explosion. Neglect air resistance.

5. It is common to see birds of prey rising upward on thermals. The paths they take may be spiral-like. You can model the spiral motion as uniform circular motion combined with a constant upward velocity. Assume a bird completes a circle of radius 8.00 m every 5.00 s and rises vertically at a rate of 3.00 m/s.

Find the speed of the bird relative to the ground.
Find the magnitude of the bird's acceleration.
Find the direction of the bird's acceleration.
Find the angle between the bird's velocity vector and the horizontal.

Animal Farm by George Orwell? The hero, in the sense that he stands for what is right, dies and those who take over from him are corrupt, greedy and power-hungry. Heavily influenced by Soviet Totalitarianism.

The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. A little bit vague, but the main character, Frank, discovers through the book that he is in fact a she, but by the end of the book you see how she hasn't changed at all as she blames the fact that her father tricked her on herself; she hasn't moved on. If it's any good, drop me a PM and I can give you more information.
