Not really sure where this fits, but if you AP'ers ever want to discuss wine discuss it here! Domestic, foreign, homemade, cheap, expensive, whatever you wish!

Ultimately it would be nice to see if we could get some good $8-$12 recs.

Discuss away my lovers of the grape.

TO start off, on this wonderful Labor Day I'll be having some Old Vine Zinfandel by the name of "Gnarly Heads" This stuff is great with barbecue and you can get it for about $12.

You don't have to have any sophistication. Just drink what you like, that's the only way one should have to enjoy wine.

i love a good New Zealand sauvignon blanc. so crisp and refreshing. at my work we just started serving this German Riesling that isn't as sweet as most Rieslings but is still really nice. As for red wine, if anyone orders any merlot, i'm leaving, i'm not drinking any fucking merlot. haha actually I like to cook with merlot. since it is a bit heavier and on the darker side, i think it really is a good way to braise beef short ribs or reduce for a glaze for lamb perhaps. I really enjoy drinking a good Chianti or Syrah though in the red department.

i'm open to discuss more. good thread.

I'm not a wine expert by any means, but I love sangria.

My favorite wine is this local one: Boordy. Every one that I've tried is fruity, sweet and refreshing. And it's about $10- $12 a bottle.

Sangria with fresh fruit is soooo good. Ecspecialy the next day when it's been soaking up in the fruit. Reaaaal bitchin'

Yes! I've never made my own sangria but the stuff I've had at parties has always been delicious. Anybody got a good sangria recipe?

I just get a huge bottle of it and then add fresh fruit. I don't know if you're a hard liquor person, but watermelon vodka, cut open a fresh water melon in half. Scoop out all of the watermelon with like an ice cream thing. Put it in like small cups and pour the vodka into the watermelon. Let it sit there for a good 10 hours then pour the vodka into the cups with the watermelon you previously cut out. It is, I am not even joking around, to die for. It's my favorite drink ever. It's just really time consuming.

Although mixing me and vodka is always bad news (not in the crazy-I-wanna-fight-everyone-all-night way), that sounds amazing! You mix the watermelon vodka with the bottle of sangria in the watermelon shell?

Speaking of vodka, a bar in my neighborhood makes bacon vodka. I've never tried it because I don't think I could stomach it, but I thought it was interesting.

Noooo, haha this is something seperate. Watermelon vodka alone not with the sangria. Yeah, that would probably make me vomit.

Haha! I gotcha. The same bar had a drink named Mr. Bojangles. It was blueberry vodka, cranberry juice and I believe a splash of Sprite. Delicious.

It is! Try mixing it up on your own. On my 21st birthday, my mom made these shots of Van Gogh espresso vodka and Starbuck's liquer. Alcohol and caffeine are never a good mixture, but those shots are really good if you're a coffee fan.

Anywho I'm off to bed. Nice chatting with you! Good night.

SB and McClane ftw! I can't wait to have some of the French wines I brought back from my internship in Europe. Got an awesome white from the Mercury estate and two reds from Pommard. The one red is one of the best wines I have ever tasted, I can't even describe it.

Oh how I miss French wine :(
