Please check out the Mile After. They're one of the best bands in NC right now. http://www.myspace.com/themileafter. They need all the support they can get. "Piano Song" should be right up your alley.

Thanks, they are actually already one of my favorites and Piano Song is my favorite song of theirs!

If you like some screaming with your piano, check out Desert City Soundtrack's Contents of Distraction and Funeral Car.

...perhaps not.
Listen to The Reign of Kindo's new album. The first track should blow you away, if you like "piano rock."

I disagree. While they're one of my favorite bands, I don't think this is really what the OP is looking for. Sure, the first album could be classified as "piano rock" but really not a whole lot since then would fit that description. The EP was all over the map, and there's barely any piano at all on TNTS. Drop the "piano" part and just say they're rock, and I'd recommend them to anyone. But if someone specifically wants piano rock, they wouldn't be in my list of recs.

The Hush Sound's first album
Why does everyone like that album? I honestly think it's their weakest one. Like Vines is wayyyyy better in every way.

The Cab
I think The Cab are one of the worst bands I've heard in years. I really don't find anything even remotely interesting about their music. It's like, scene pop for elevators and dentist chairs or something.

I'd highly recommend Jack's Mannequin if you've never listened to them before. Their first album, Everything in Transit, seems to have more piano-based rock stuff than their more recent album, The Glass Passenger (although even that has quite a few piano tracks - you just hear more guitar, so it's less soft-sounding).
Keane would definitely fit into the piano rock category as well. Their songs are similar to those of Coldplay (kind of sad, but calming at the same time).

So Sudden was their first album, Like Vines was the follow up. I like the new one okay, but it's nowhere near as good as LV. In all honesty I'm not a fan of So Sudden at all. I think a lot of people only like it because it's the most "scene" sounding of all of their albums. I think with the next two they really started to carve out their own sound, but on the first album they were just kinda like Straylight Run Jr. or something.
