There is a number talked about in Pi (magnificent movie, I totally recommend it) that they say may have to do with the spirals and life, but all we ever learn of the number is how many digits long it is.

I used to be really into pi, but lately, after calculus, I've been fairly partial to e, so thats what I said, e. I'm also a fan of the number four, that ones pretty good but it wasn't a choice.

If you don't understand the ratio I'm pretty sure in The DaVinci Code, there is a pretty good section in there on phi that explains the simplified version and also just gives examples of it in nature that wows the shit out of most people.
