View Full Version : Toronto International Film Festival
Starts Thursday and lasts until next Saturday (September 4th-13th)
Very good lineup this year and a lot of extra attention being payed to the festival due to the fact that lots of Oscar-magnets premiered here last year (and most years, but eh). Anyone lucky enough to be attending? The great thing about all these films is that there isn't a single one I wouldn't watch.
List of film's being screened (that I know of)
Appaloosa
Burn After Reading
Rachael Getting Married
Che
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Blindness
Slumdog Millionaire
Miracle At St. Anna
Flash of Genius
The Brothers Bloom
The Duchess
The Secret Life of Bees
Nothing But The Truth
Ghost Town
Zack and Miri Make A Porno
Happy Go-Lucky
Synecdoche, New York
Wendy and Lucy
Adoration
The Wrestler
Genova
Rocknrolla
Passchendaele
Me and Orson Welles

I was going to go, but something came up. I had passes to one of the screenings of The Wrestler, too, but I gave them to a friend. I have already seen Blindness at a screening though and thought it was OK, but could have easily been shortened by about fifteen minutes.
Yeah Blindness didn't go over to well at Cannes so I think its be reworked a little bit

I think what I saw was the reworked version, sadly enough. I just saw it last month. We shall see. A lot of movies get cut down after the Toronto festival.
I also wanted to catch JCVD. There is huge buzz around that one and the advance word in the local papers has been really kind.

I hope its good but if that's true that is grim indeed
What is JCVD? I feel bad for not knowing.

JCVD is Jean Claude Van Damme's new movie. Apparently he plays himself, and he is just a complete washed up, run down, drunken mess, and he is taken hostage in the middle of a bank robbery. The man who books the Toronto festival said it was the most original and entertaining movie he had seen at Cannes this year. Which with Van Damme in it says a lot. It is getting a lot of comparison to "Being John Malcovich". Only with kickboxing and Van Damme talking directly to the audience.

Haha, that actually sounds pretty interesting.

I believe the individual tickets go on sale tomorrow. I won't be surprised if they all sell out.
One of the local weekly papers is also having a screening of Zack and Miri the same week, but once again, even if I entered the contest and got passes, i couldn't make it. :-(

Some of those are among my most anticipated of the year, I would love to be there.

Other films of note:
Rocknrolla (Guy Ritchie's latest)
Passchendaele (the most expensive Canadian film ever made)
Me and Orson Wells (Richard Linklater's latest)
Religulous (Bill Maher and Larry Charles documentary on religion)
New York, I Love You (Pseudo-sequel to Paris J'taime, being shown as a work in progress)
The Hurt Locker (from the director of Point Break about a bomb squad in Iraq, not political, just action)
The Lucky Ones (Rachel McAdams in a *comedy* about people returning home from Iraq)
Yeah I would love nothing more than to be there. So many good movies in one place.

Damn, I want to watch that. I used to love him when I was younger.
I really hope Passchendaele gets a U.S. release. Sounds spectacular.
I'm also very much looking forward to Me and Orson Welles. Strange.

Damn, I want to watch that. I used to love him when I was younger. Hard Target is still a really underrated and really entertaining action film. At least his movies were better than most of Steven Segal's.
