View Full Version : Obama To Go on O'Reilly
Steve Henderson

"Barack Obama will reportedly be going (http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0908/Dept_of_Counterprogramming_Obama_to _appear_on_OReilly_tonight.html?sho wall) where not too many prominent Dems like to venture: The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News. Obama will be sitting down with O'Reilly for an interview set to air tomorrow night, in an attempt to counter John McCain's speech at the Republican Convention."

It's a pretty clever move since it will get people talking and defer attention from McBush's acceptance speech - hopefully he will get some jabs in to break up the RNC monopoly on media coverage.

Hahah, I don't understand where this "sexist" card is coming from. It's laughable. They figure if they can anger women into believing it - they'll vote for McCain. The only person I heard making sexist remarks have been conservatives. I'd love to see some quotes provided otherwise.
And of course not ... why bring up how many times she was called a bitch (McCain's own campaign) or the "sexist" buttons being worn in the RNC last night.

I think he admitted what he needed to. It is PARTIALLY successful in that it it reduced the violence. However, as Obama said, it brings them no close to whatever imaginary endgame McCain and the repubs have set up for Iraq. If it worked as much as McCain says, it would be unequivocal...we would be out of there.

It's too bad Bill still has no idea how to interview people. He was trying to interrupt or counter him before Obama could get two words out of his mouth. At least Obama was respectful considering the circumstances.

Do any of you realize that the violence in AFGHANISTAN WHERE THE ACTUAL FUCKING TERRORISTS ARE has more than fucking tripled within the last month alone?? This fucking speech being given right now has essentially sent me into a rage. My younger brother is in Afghanistan and just last week there was a 9 car convoy full of explosives that tried to drive onto his FOB. In the last three weeks he has had 3-4 gunfights with actual Al Qaeda terrorists that are moving closer and closer to the several military bases in northern Afghanistan. And has this war been brought up even once by the Republicans? No. Instead the focus is on Iraq where we created the fucking disaster for ourselves rather than sending more troops to where they are actually needed.

Yeah, I wasn't aware that to be a good news anchor, it doesn't matter how biased you are in your ramblings, it merely comes down to you let your guest finish his sentences.

No, Olbermann is quite the dick. He caters to the left wing and makes "jokes" that only they find funny, the rest of the liberal base (not even including the conservatives) find to be at the best a failed attempt and at the worst a crude, disrespectful remark.
However, he does speak more eloquently than O'Reilly. But you can be the most eloquent speaker in the world, if your "news" segment is merely opinionated speak you try and call news, you fail.

Yeah, I wasn't aware that to be a good news anchor, it doesn't matter how biased you are in your ramblings, it merely comes down to you let your guest finish his sentences.
I guess IM the crazy one for preferring unbiased (well, less biased) news anchors who present facts rather than opinions (Olbermann's Worst Person in the World, I'm looking at you)
WELL YOU COULD YELL TO OVERRULE YOUR GUESTS WHO ARE TRYING TO HAVE A CIVIL DEBATE or you can have polite, fierce debate where two rational people disagree but can still respect differing opinions. Now who is who?
Of course it's an opinionated segment, but he backs it up with current events and presents his opinion. But he also does numerous segments where he corrects numerous idiots for their inaccurate statements and puts them in their place. Both parties. (See: Clinton. See: Coulter.)

I feel like you think I'm trying to defend O'Reilly. I most certainly am not. I admit it, he's crazy, and a poor source of news. However, if you even believe Olbermann isn't in the same ballpark as O'Reilly is, you're wrong.

He isn't, I'm pointing out the clear differences. I admit that Olbermann is clearly a liberal and has a very liberal primetime spot. But to say he is nothing like O'Reilly.

Yeah, he is clearly a liberal. But he goes about professing his opinions in the same way O'Reilly does. They both have the same agenda and present news with their own spin on it. And they both make no bones about their allegiances. However, Olbermann displays a bit more professionalism and doesn't speak like an incoherent moron. You can't just overlook the fact that he is just as bad as O'Reilly just because he speaks well. That's being a bit hypocritical.
Whatever, I know I'm not the only one who believes they're the same. And I know you won't ever think that, let's agree to disagree. There are bigger issues to be tackled this election.

He isn't just as bad as O'Reilly. He doesn't broad assumptions, he doesn't contradict himself months later (see The Daily Show's latest call of O'Reilly's 'gestating' teen pregnancy belief).
And O'Reilly, I'm quite certain is a registered independent.
Anyway, yes, agree to disagree.

even when it seemed like o'reilly agreed with obama in that interview it looked like he wanted to disagree haha

I think he admitted what he needed to. It is PARTIALLY successful in that it it reduced the violence. However, as Obama said, it brings them no close to whatever imaginary endgame McCain and the repubs have set up for Iraq. If it worked as much as McCain says, it would be unequivocal...we would be out of there.
i told that to this kid in school today and his response was "we went to iraq to stabalize it not to pull out." haha

he does. they just happen to be liberals. it's more nuanced than o'reilly's "i'm going to find someone who sounds dumb and is the opposite of me politically" strategy.

I used to defend MSNBC more until the DNC
Olbermann and Matthews were like cheerleaders reporting that
My thing is, I don't have a problem with it, I just know thats how it is. They don't try to hide it.

I watched the first minute of O'Reilly's interview with Obama. Obama accepts that there is a 'war on terror'. Hmm...This man is the alternative to Bush? How about saying it's a war OF terror? 1 million dead Iraqis, thousands of dead Afghans...
"We did not knowingly prevent these people from living..."

"We did not knowingly prevent these people from living..."Perhaps you should've kept watching two seconds longer and you would've gotten your answer. The Bush administration's "war on terror" supposedly was to go after those that attacked us on 9/11 yet we didn't. Obama is just trying to clarify where are "enemies" actually are and where our resources should have been used at the time.
