For over two hundred fifty years, doughnuts, which originated with Dutch bakers did not have holes in the center; the hole was an American modification that, once intoduced, redifined the shape of the pastry. The deep fried batter doughnut originated in the sixteenth century Holland, where it was known as an Olykoek. The hole provides for faster baking.

think about it this way, maybe they're too beautiful to live...so they go on to butterfly heaven and live in everlasting beauty :-)

I was thinking last night how its wrong that butterflies are the most beautiful insects yet they only live for about a month...
time is all relative. what if a month to us is like 100 years to them? that's probably why some of them wander into traffic. poor depressed butterflies...
for some reason i've been trailing off at the end of my sentences. idk why

I actually know the answer to this (although, I'm paraphrasing.....obviously) . Anyway, they used to make donuts w/out the holes (i dont know what they were called) but they would take them out to sea to eat during the long trip.
One day, some captain was eating one and steering his ship and had nowhere to put his donut, so he stuck it onto the steering wheel thing and after that he started poking holes out of all the donuts so he'd have a place to put them.
I dont know how true it is, It was on the wall of a Dunkin Donuts w/ other donut and coffee trivia.

i heard that they only live for 24 hours. they lay their eggs, then then die after.. if you think about it, they are caterpillars most of their life time.
