AIM mp3 Exchange

So I've heard someone make a comment about this before so I decided to make a thread about it. I know a lot of people here use mIRC, Soulseek and such to find their music, but what about AIM? There's that fuction on AIM where you can "Get File", but all that has to happen is for the person who you want to get the file from has to be sharing their files. I know that there's a lot of stuff some of you guys have that I may want to download and I can't find it on things like SoulSeek or mIRC. So anyone up for sharing files through AIM?

To set it up:

1) Click "My Aim" ---> "Edit Options" --> "Edit Preferences"
2) Click "File Sharing"
3) Click "Browse" and choose the folder that has your music files in it.
4) Make sure you allow users on your buddy list (and those not on it, if you're generous) to access your files in the "File Access" section.
5) Click "Apply" --> "Ok"

You should be ready to go. Quit AIM and check your preferences again to make sure the changes worked if you're having any troubles. I have 2000+ songs in my folder available for download. My name is LOMIKE2.

Anyways, this may take a while, but we recently set up a media server in our house. We set aside an extra computer on our house network loaded it with hard drive space and now we're in the process of loading it full of all of our mp3s and ripping all our cds onto it. So, there is going to be a ton of stuff on this thing once we're done. I probably won't share the entire thing up over AIM to the whole world, but I could share a list of everything that's on there or something once we're done and take requests and send them to anyone who's looking for something. Or people could IM me and I'll toss you on my buddy list and just share it that way.

Again, we still haven't even really started putting stuff on it. But it's going to be awesome once we're done. He's actually setting it up to stream over the internet and transmit to stereos throughout the house too. We're also ripping our movies on there too and hooking it up to our TV. It's nice having a computer science major as one of your roommates who loves messing with all this crap.

They can't block BitTorrent, or a DC++ hub that's actually on the campus, which is what I did last year. However this year I am in a university-owned apartment and receive my internet connection from the cable company.

Soulseek has a lot of stuff, but not everything. Plus it can be a bitch d/l all that stuff if someone signs off or something. While on IM, if your on the person's buddylist you can be signed on at anytime and people can d/l from you, not to mention that most of the time it's faster.

on aim... go to my aim--->edit options--->edit preferences.
then on the side bar of edit prefs. click on file sharing. then browse and select the file where your music is. then set how you want users on your b/l and not on your b/l to get them(allow, display approve dialog, don't allow). then click APPLY then ok. and you're set.

Well I just wanted to inform you all that I have almost all my CDs and all my mp3s on my laptop now so anyone who wants to take a look and take some of the files I have, feel free. However, the best time to get any mp3s from me is in the evening because during the day I'm turning my laptop on and off and connecting and disconnecting from the internet a lot.

This is actually my first post on this site but I found exactly what i was hoping i would find here... a thread like this with ppl sharing their AIM Get File and what i would just like to share my music too. I have around 50 gigs in my shared folder which is about 13,000 songs. Its open to anyone on or not on my buddy list. Feel free to get anything you want anytime unless someone else is... obviously, then there are other ways i could help you get what youre lookin for. Just IM me and ask me and ill see if i have it.
