Depends on the amp, and what you want out of it.

i know but this isnt "which is better" this is "which do you prefer and why"
i dont really know my own preference. they both have a really nice, pure EL84 based british tone but orange has the focus on a low-mid gain range which suits my styles of music better and just appears more versatile, and i like the voicing better also, it has more character whereas hughes & kettner amps seem to be for straight rock stuff. however since the H&K obviously could still be voiced for my styles with its british tone and top of the line quality, i might prefer it just because their valve amps have blue LED's that light up and i think that looks so sick haha.

I don't know why I'd apply either to the same situation, thus I don't know why I'd have to decide like this. As Patrick said, it depends on the situation. I don't prefer one objectively over the other all the time.
Orange because I don't have the money for either one, but I've seen famous bands play on Orange so that is my pick.

Exactly. Orange is great for some things, H&K is great for totally different things. They barely overlap at all. It's like asking if you prefer a window or a ceiling fan.

I voted Orange since that's the only one I've played of the two. It's totally biased but I just love the tone I got with my tele. That said, I will never have enough to afford either of them.

I vote Orange because I own the Rockerverb 50 combo and its totally sweet. Amaziing Clean tones with plenty of headroom. The reverb is so amazing I can't even explain. The dirty channel is so focused and can get just about any tone you want out of it. Also, it is simple. Clean channel is volume, treble, and bass. The dirty channel is Gain, volume, treble, mid, and bass, then reverb. Footswitch, and you can choose between high and low damoening High for more metal palmuty stuff and low for looser stuff. It is so easy to find a good tone and there arn't a million knobs to clutter up the tone or make it difficult to find what you want. Simpler is always better.

I voted Orange. I've played both their low end amps (H&K Edition Blue 30 and Orange Crush 30) and to me, the Orange was better. Having said that, I've never played a higher end H&K (although I have played a Rockerverb 30 and it was near tonal heaven) so I can't comment further. But if I had that kind of money, I'd get a Bogner.

yeah the orange crush is easily my favorite amp driven solely by transistors. the only one ive played where the tone wasnt disappointing.
but as for practice amps under 300, i would totally go for the fender super champ XD. so much fun to be had with the different analog voices, and thats a good price for something with two output valves and one preamp

Yeah, the Super Champ XD and Vibro Champ XD are both awesome practice amps. The modeling preamp sounds pretty good, and by running it through an all-tube power amp they manage to keep the tone pretty authentic.
