This album is great. I love it so much because it was such a departure for them. It was growth. It was mature. It was over all great. They should have had more success with it. I also love every single bonus track from this album. "Toasted Skin" is fucking amazing. Best summer song I've heard.

Santi is just as terrible as it was when released.
False.
It was pretty painful upon its debut. While listening to it a year and a half later in my friends car while she was driving us to 7/11 at 5am, she began signing along to the lead single while making sounds that I'd imagine are similar to those made when a large, excessively hairy trucker carves a hole into your neck with a dull all-purpose Swiss Army Knife and proceeds to stick his throbbing manhood in the newly fashioned 'orifice' (she refers to these sounds as "singing," but I can't in good conscience believe anyone can make such horrific noises without deliberately trying to sound like an abomination of nature.). It is now much, much worse as a result.
So no, Santi is not as terrible as it was in 2007. Not in the slightest. It's vileness has increased at an exponential rate.

You probably don't see the irony here, so I'll explain it. You claim to abhor "elitists." You proceed to verbally attack alice + interiors, who didn't even respond to your inane initial post or the subject of this thread, and ever so eloquently claim that his opinions are "complete shit." This, in fact, would make you an "ideological elitist." You position your outlook and perspective over others, and believe you can objectively claim which are "complete shit."
We're all elitsts. The fact that you continue to berate others for not liking the shitty album you hold in such high regard is also proof - "if you don't dig Santi, you suck and are an elitist." How do you not get this?

I probably feel the same way about The National. You could have seen Yeasayer and The Skatalites though, so really I'd still be upset. Apologies for being a downer.
"Sunrise" is one of the best album openers I've ever heard.
I'll prolong the heartbreak by stating that Fake Empire is better.
Like I've said countless times before, "Fake Empire" was the best song of 2007.
Good god it's an amazing song.

You being a downer has no effect on me. I'm glad I got the chance to see/meet/hang out with the Skatalites, and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life so far. Yeasayer will be back soon and I won't miss them next time around.
I understand where you're coming from with that, but I'm more of a fan of world music, and Yeasayer... yeah.
It still sucks as much as it did 2 years ago.

If it takes a terrible follow-up for these supposedly incredible intricacies to reveal themselves, you aren't listening to music correctly.

Understandable from your perspective. I just want an artist to get me excited about music again. A newoffering by The National would certainly fit the bill. I think I rec'd them to Craig last year actually and if I remember correctly, he also digs Yeasayer. Wouldn't make sense not to attend if there's a show nearby.

I hear that. This year was a great year for me, album release wise, but not spectacular. The two albums I'm waiting on (a new Tim Finn and Fat Freddy's Drop) though.. I have high hopes for them. It seems like every album from this year that I've been enjoying has a few weak tracks. Love You Moon's release was incredible but I feel like he can do much better and we're all still waiting for "that album" from him.

I'm never even aware of who's releasing albums so I may have a few pleasant surprises ahead. Possible gems are the Lamontagne and Mogwai albums in addition to others I'm surely forgetting at the moment. Here's hoping.

Mmm Lamontagne. I don't bother reading the news on this site because it's never about bands I care about, so I'm only updated if someone tells me about a new album. I check label sites once in a while... other than that, just word of mouth.

By "word of mouth" I totally just meant a few kids on AP that keep me updated haha.
I only recently got into LaMontagne, and someone sent me the single a few days ago but I haven't really given it a proper listen yet. Maybe I should now.

Ah I see haha. Working at a music store, I always have people informing me of release dates and whatnot.
Still not sure what to think of the new Ray single honestly. I'll like it one day and then think it's rather ordinary the next. Then again, I'm not the biggest Lamontagne fan around so it's not like 2008 hinges solely on this release.

Lucky. The closest music store that's not an FYE or Best Buy that I know of is like 40 minutes away from me. When I (hopefully) move in January to New York, I hope there's a good place close to the university where I can spend most of my time.. and money haha.
I'm really enjoying Trouble so far. "Hold You In My Arms" is almost always the first track I play when I go to listen to it. As for the new single... I actually like it quite a bit, it'll probably grow more on me. I love the horns though.

I wish I had a simple answer to give you haha. When I originally applied, I had an entire plan in my head and knew exactly what I wanted to do. But now I have no idea. I was going to major in journalism but I realized... I don't want to. I want to write but I don't want to be a journalist. I'm going to take photography but I don't want to be a photographer. I have no idea really. I decided I'm going to re-learn French though. So.. I don't know. Haha, I sound crazy. I graduated high school a year early with this whole plan laid out, and now I'm just kind of... seeing what happens.
Definitely a great vocalist. Trouble is an album that I can throw on, sit back, and just enjoy it for a while and not have to constantly be doing something else, which is how I usually am. Whether it's browsing webpages, drawing, writing, singing along even haha... I can actually just relax to this.

Lack of direction is something I'm all too familiar with. Believe me though, journalism is a pain. So much less creative than I expected with structure and norms taking precedence over the actual content of a piece. Really unfortunate but I'm going to see it through for the diploma ha. I'm in no place to dish out advice but if I were to, I'd say not to rush it. If you have a prevailing passion/interest, you'll find a way to incorporate it into your future profession. Let things play out and you'll find your way eventually. Boy that was a lot of rambling.

Trust me, no one is more familiar with a lack of direction than me. I was in a different school every year from 7th-11th grade, and I didn't even have a senior year because I graduated early. When I took journalism in high school, it was exactly what I expected until I found out that my class was only so great because of the teacher, and that it was him that put the spin on things. I'm passionate about a few things, but I don't want to make any of them my life's work because then I feel like the passion will fade and it will become just a job. I know what I want to eventually do, but I feel like I need to do something before that. It'd be cool to write children's books haha.
I probably worded that one wrong. When I listen to it, it pulls me away from whatever I'm doing, whereas most albums that I love and usually become completely immersed in... I can still listen to them while doing other things. This one distracts me, and it's usually whatever else I'm doing that distracts me from the music. It's wonderful though, no complaints here haha.
I do have to say, I did like the first song off of "Fast Times"

In that case, creative writing might be something to look into. While I understand this position regarding your passions and profession, you do need to work and finding a way to blend the two would likely make for the most pleasant way to earn money. As long as you don't ever compromise the former to accommodate the latter, it's all good. If you know what you eventually want to do, simply inch toward it. I'm still trying to figure it out so take everything posted with a grain of salt.

Not sure I'd chalk it up entirely to fear; I also don't have that fervent a passion for writing in general. All boils down to complete and utter lack of direction. Moreover, I'm not one of those individuals who can compromise their interests for the sake of making money. Been going through the motions trying to figure out what I want as a result. Oh well, if someone is willing to offer me a position denigrating album after album, I'll take it.

We've all accepted Billy Joel is never going to be viewed as "cool" or fitting into the template of "the rockstar," and his contemporary work is, without a doubt, insipid and both of these facts lead many to take his work less than serious, but the man released a series of innocuous-but-solid albums in the '70s and, within that body of work, laid one tremendous outing ('77s The Stranger) which doesn't receive the praise it deserves as one of the best releases of the decade.

Eh. Billy Joel is looked as a harmless, often novelty pop rock act...which he is without the "harmless" part. His work should be taken a little more seriously. This line of thought isn't unique to Klosterman.
