State and Madison - Consider This a Confession
Record Label: None
Release Date: December 2007
Pop-rock and the EP are meant to be married together for short bursts of fun, and State and Madison’s Consider This a Confession EP provides that perfect marital bliss. Opening with a killer hook that’s going to have fans singing along immediately, “While Waiting” kicks off the party that keeps your foot tapping through the five songs that hint at some outside influences. Those outside influences are especially apparent on the centerpiece of the EP, “A Waltz,” which lapses through the familiar beat and mixes it with a pop-rock hook, all with stellar vocals guiding the process.
The final song, “Who Will You Love?” moves along with a simmering aggression that kept this listener’s leg bouncing and fingers tapping. With some whispered vocals that are perfectly timed, and the sung chant of “Who will you love?” fading off into the distance is the perfect end to this just-over-fifteen-minute party.
With crisp vocals, catchy hooks, and a full-length coming later this year, this Chicago four-piece have all the potential to follow their famous counterparts out of the Chicago scene to the national level - and this EP, I believe, is just a taste of what is to come.
The Classic Crime; pop rock
