Since this is the "Education" forum I thought I'd bring this up but did you know that snowflakes are shaped the way they are because of the molecular shape of water?
I thought this was interesting reading about this in Meterology and Chemistry.
Also the shape of ice crystals depends on the temperature and it can be the same shape at between 14F to 10F and 3F to -8F (sector plates) and between 21F to 14F and -8F and less (hollow columns).

this doesn't surprise me much at all...the molecular properties of water are amazing...like crazy amazing.
