I need a new song to learn. Can anyone give me a suggestion?

The music school that i'm applying for next year requires an audition, which will include playing 2 songs from contrasting genre's.

So they will need to be of fairly high level difficulty...but "do-able" for a 17 year old player.

Thanks for any help..

Acoustic or electric?

I play a lot of Thursday songs and they are pretty technical, but definitely doable for someone with a little bit of experience. That, or Incubus also has some pretty cool guitar stuff, people seem pretty impressed when I play 'Echo' but it's really not difficult.

Acoustic or electric, either way.

I've been playing 7 years, I can handle Thursday... I just meant nothing insanely hard.

Yeah, Incubus would be good. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Thanks Ben

The school is the JMC Academy. There's one in Sydney and Melbourne, so i'll be going in Sydney. It's a 5 minute walk from Central Station

But if she can play their stuff well (like the intro to Above Me, holy crap what a crazy good song!) then they would notice she is an awesome guitarist because she CAN play that fast. Plus, its technical enough i think to impress anyone.

dood,e, if u want to improve ur chops, u need to try to stop lernin songs for a while and try lernin technique excersises, check out...

john petrucci's rock dicipline,
matt smiths chop shop,
guitar cookbook,

they're quite a few, buit if ur doin an audition, i'm guessin ur goin ta berklee...they're really tough!!!

for a song, i'd need ta know what level ur at, begginner intermedia or advanced, tat way i can tell ya what a gud song would be to play for em, if u play a punk song you might end up in a starting rawk class and that ain't KEWLL!!!!

try makin a 1 hour or more practice chart too if u haven't already...that is if ur goin ta berklee...more details on da camp????

Really? 7 years? Can you help me out with music theory? I'm having trouble writing out chord progressions and then improvising over them with the harmonic major scale, do you have any tips as to what I should try doing?

I'm just wondering if you know any ideal progressions to use when playing with this scale. I have some ideas, but I'm wondering if there's any ones that are most commnly heard?

i would say incubus, dream theater, jimi hendrix, led zepplin

people have been saying rufio stuff but thats not really that hard and its not techinical. They dont know music theory so they dont know what they are doing. same with thursday.

(im not dissing the bands though. cause i do like them)

OKay Hendrix stuff isn't hard hard, (not saying its difficult) but the hardest part is recreating his sound obtained by fucking around with feedback and schtuffz.
