I seriously don't get the hype about this band. I'm all for a little variety and whatever, but i just find it plain boring. What do you guys think?

they are pretty good. If you look at it as just another band, then they are quite good and exceed your expectations. I think the problem with this cd for a lot of people is that they got their hopes up too high, simply just because John Nolan is a member of the band...

i like them ive been meaning to get the cd actually.

Personally I like them but I also think that they are an aquired taste i.e not everyone likes them. Though saying that I think when the whole emo genre becomes over saturated with bands and crashes (meaning people start to get a little sick of it and loads of bands subsequantly break up because of this) like Ska sorta did I think they will still be popular and stand the test of time because I think they're just as much indie as they are emo kinda like the way Death Cab are, well sort of anyway.

Go and see them live then come tell me this. The're an incredible live band. Everything is played so beautifully and in sync. I liked the cd but i wasn't overly impressed, then i seen them live and gained so much more respect for them.

compare tbs's lyrics to straylights lyrics. straylights are so much better. also the videos i have of them live are really good and i like the cd. i think a big prob was a bit of overhyping and the coming out of jew a few weeks later just destroyed it.

I don't like them.
And the fucker that called them emo deserves to have his ass raped by 10 big burly men at one time.

Their demo was good. Very good actually. All the songs they redid from the demo on the full length were done poorly though. Infact, all the songs on the full length were pretty bad.

Taking Back Sunday lost a good member. John Nolan was a significant part of what made TBS good. Now that they don't have him, they suck. I went and saw TBS recently and it just so happens that all of their new stuff sounded the same when they played it. When I bought the cd I at least thought that they would make up for it in concert but they didn't. Straylight Run, however, is fucking great...in concert too.

Obviously from my name they are one of my favorite bands, however I can understand where people get the idea they are overrated. Their CD was produced horribly, however I am still able to enjoy every song on there (yes, including Toolsheds and Hottubs).
I agree that anyone who dislikes them just needs to see them live and I think they'll eat their own words. Their live show is brilliant and John Nolan is one of the most talented musicians in that genre of music imo.
I also agree that their next CD will blow everyone out of the water (I believe Slow Descent and Costello will be on it, which are 2 incredible songs plus you know John will write many more brilliant songs

Straylight Run has one or two good songs. I really do dig "Your Name Here."

Straylight Run is one of those bands that you either love or think is over-rated bullshit.... Me being in the first group, can also understand why people think that they are over-rated, due to the extreme hype before the album release.
I still think they're awesome and listen to their CD almost constantly...and can't wait to see them live in January.

i really like straylight run. i love john and michelle's voices, and i like their lyrics, and their songs... my only complaint is that the cd is over-polished (their demos are better).

holy crap relax, she prolly does listen to other music, but it's not like she can throw out a reference to american nightmare or cursive when talking about straylight.

i personally couldn't stand them forever...now I can tolerate a few songs but I really just don't understand the hype. they've been so overhyped that I'm just sick of seeing "sing like you think no one's listening" in people's profiles. Give it up people - John Nolan is not Jesus Christ.

definately agree. i mean, i like that one song but i listened to the whole cd and it's just not my cup of tea.
Throwback

The CD wsa a big let down at first. Then I listened and while I still prefer mostly all the demo versions, the new versions of Its For The Best & Existentialism are awesome. Plus, I love the new songs like Dignity & Money (one of the songs of the year), Your Name Here, and Sympathy for the Martyr.
But my biggest problem was that they polished John's voice and it bugs me.
