Thoughts on the LA music scene? What are your favorite new bands to come out of LA? You don't have to be from LA, just talk about a band you like that is from LA.
I think my favorite LA band right now would have to be the Deadly Syndrome. I've seen them several times and their live shows are great. I also really have gotten into Weather Underground and the Henry Clay people.

The Deadly Syndrome is not bad (my mom saw them at the Hammer and got me into them)
My favorite lesser-known LA-area bands are Halos and Flight 409. In a more mainstream sense, I also like Metro Station (yes, kill me) and Saosin. I used to like I Am Ghost but not so much anymore. I think we need a better scene.

I saw the Deadly Syndrome at the Hammer show as well. The music scene in LA isn't great. It's certainly not on the level of the contemporary art scene here in terms of significance but there are some good bands out there. If you get a chance to check out the Weather Underground I think you'd like them.

Happy Campers are a LA band that I've got into lately - great pop-punk ala earlier Greenday

Ms. Derringer is also good. They opened for the Deadly Syndrome when they played at the Hammer.
Los StraightJackets is cool. If you have ever seen a Lucha Va Voom show. It is kind of like that. They dress up as mexican wrestlers.
Something for Rockets- I haven't seem them in a while but I used to see them at Spaceland a lot. Not sure what happened to them.
I also like The Binges, they rock hard. the music is a little harder than I usually listen to but they put on a great show.
