The fifth annual Juice Jam played this past Sunday to a diverse and Pitchfork Media happy line up.
First up was Syracuse alum Ra Ra Riot whose energetic and hauntingly beautiful live show was a great way to start the afternoon. They played almost every song of The Rhumb Line and sounded great. The violin and cello are two great instruments to see played in a live band.
Next up was MC Talib Kweli. He got the crowd dancing, smoking green, and pumping their firsts to almost every song. He rapped with great flow and every word he said could be easily heard. He opened with Eardrum and closed wtih Get By and in the middle played some Hospel Gospel and Get em High as well as some Black Starr and Hi-Tek material.
Then came the headliner Bloc Party. As a lot of the crowd left after Talib the real fans stayed to see a band who you normally can't get into the door with by paying 10$. I was right up front and i have to say Bloc Party's energy and show was unmatched. Everyone was jumping around singing, and some moshing and crowd surfing also took place. Kele laughed and smiled the whole time and eventually during the encore came out in a Syracuse Bball jersey. In the school paper he said the day before they played for 30,000 at V Fest and to come to a college and play for close to 2 to 3,000 was a more intimate throw back for them. During Mercury Kele came out into the crowd and ran around and let the fans get in on the action.
Setlist looks something like this
So Here We Are / Halo / Hunting For Witches / Positive Tension / Song For Clay (Disappear Here) / Banquet / This Modern Love / Like Eating Glass / Mercury/ The Prayer /Trojan Horse
Flux/ Price of Gas/ Helicopter
During the show Kele asked whose house parties the hardest at SU and some guys in front said their house. Apparently that night Kele and the drummer showed up and played drinking games for a couple hours with the people and it turned into a big party.
