today in psych class i watched a video of dr kevorkian killing a man with lou gehrigs disease. he did this because the man wanted to die but also because he wanted the world to come to a decision on it. i wanted to know what everyones thoughts on it are. i think it should be allowed. if a person is terminally ill and suffering, i think they should be able to make the decision if they want to live or die

So long as the person is determined to be mentally sane, then of course it should be allowed. But now that I think about it, is it possible that the desire to kill yourself automatically makes you insane? Bit of a Catch 22. But in all seriousness, I totally buy the slogan "My Body, My Choice," when it comes to this.

I support passive euthenasia, and basically the "do not resuscitate" concept. It gets very complicated when you start leaving your life and the ability to take it to other people. That whole concept could even be abused. There's no foolproof way to prove sanity or no other foul play in the incident. If you're so hellbent on ending your life, it shouldn't be that difficult to take it on your own. Don't drag others into it and run the risk of so many other complications that could otherwise be avoided.

but sometimes these ways are really painful. with assisted they could do it in the least painful way possible. for instance the way kevorkian killed the man was he put him to sleep and then gave him a whole bunch of relaxants and then slipped in the poison so the guy didnt feel a thing.

I support it, but I do not think I would ever be able to bring myself to carry it out on a loved one.

That is so true, My brother-in-law is an ER Doctor in Tucson, AZ and a few weeks ago he had a guy come in who tried to kill himself. He used a .22 caliber handgun and shot himself in the temple, really painful but didn't penetrate the skull. He then shot behind his ear, ouch that hurt again still nothing. He then moved it between his eyes, really bloody but still conscious. As a last resort he shot himself twice in the chest when his wife came home 2 hours later he was still alive. He went to the hospital and suffered massive concussions and internal bleeding. Stuff like this happens all the time. about 15% of the people who shoot themselves in the head (mainly because they use too small of a gun, or don't shoot in the right place) end up surviving but will be retarded for the rest of their life. Or the people that try to poison themselves and end up with huge ulcers in their stomach that hurt everytime they try to eat. I agree that it should be legal, no one can really stop you from killing yourself, they can at least make sure you are dead so you don't wake up with more problems than when you started.
